Newer circuit board designs, newer processors, faster memory, more memory. Same basic functions.
From an end-user view point you can't tell.

Hi,
Are the hardware versions based on the country of sale in any way?
Reason for asking is that I just bought a brand new model D (Nov 2020) in the UK direct from Concept2 which came with a PM5 hardware version 634.
As there as hardware version in the 900 range, are these for the model E, or USA market or ????
Would be handy if concept published even some basic info on the different versions and any compatibility differences between them.

Nobody knows. Anyone who does know has likely signed an NDA with Concept2 Inc.

Re: PM5 monitors different hardware
Just hardware differences, the micro's move on, get faster, lower power etc.
In the product ID screen you have a production date in the day of the year/year made.
Concept 2 do not have region specific PM5's, they just hit a certain date and production switches over to the new version.
I have a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 version PM5 and probably don't need to rush to get the latest Gen 3 version. As stated by Citroen above, you as the user cannot tell the difference between them unless your in the product ID screen.
It just pays to stay current with the latest firmware, thats where the differences will be noticeable as bugs get fixed and things like connectivity with your Bluetooth and ANT+ devices improve.

Re: PM5 monitors different hardware
Well, one difference is that third-party programs will often support the newer version first. EXR only supported the newer PM5 at first, but now supports both. (All three?)
