Empty Workout
Empty Workout
I've been a concept 2 rower since April 2020.
I have had the following bug happen 3 times, latest today:
1. I start a row with the monitor and iPhone erg app connected
2. I row and the erg monitor and erg iPhone app remain sync'd for the direction of the row
3. When I finish I go to the LogBook page on the iPhone app and the workout is listed as "Empty Workout" with zero minuted and zero meters
When this first happened I figured I must have made a mistake. Today, however, I rowed for 70 minutes without interruption, the monitor and app were continuously sync'd, and the bug happened again.
Frustrating, is this a known issue???

Re: Empty Workout
Start by upgrading the firmware on your PM5 to the September 2020 version.

Then upgrade Ergdata on your phone/tablet.

Re: Empty Workout
I've done both of those things and I have had this bug both before and after firmware and iPhone app updates.

Re: Empty Workout
Send an email to info@concept2.com to report the bug directly to them.
Re: Empty Workout
I have done that, no reply yet
Re: Empty Workout
I find it works best to exit the workout on the PM and wait until the phone has updated before syncing (phone changes from “in workout” to “ready to row”).
Re: Empty Workout
I wait until my iPhone asks me whether or not I am finished rowing. I hit "yes" and then scroll over to the LogBook on my iPhone and hit "upload". This almost always works, except occasionally (3 times in 6+ months) when it doesn't.
When this happens there are no other indications that something is wrong, e.g. the PM5 and my iPhone are in sync for the whole row.

Re: Empty Workout
That's the exact opposite of Alien878's sensible recommendation. Press the back button on the PM5 when you're done or bad things will happen.
Re: Empty Workout
Ok, I'll give that a try. What is the correct procedure for pausing a row? I usually just answer "no" on my iPhone when it asks if I am done, and then everything (PM5 + iPhone erg app) re-starts when I start rowing again. Is there a pause command on PM5? I looked in the user's guide and did not see mention of a PM5 pause button.

Re: Empty Workout
Not as such. On a "just row" it will stop the clock. It won't terminate your workout for 4 minutes if you just put the handle down.
On a timed row or a distance row putting the handle will have an adverse effect on your final result.
If you want to row reps and intervals then program the monitor for reps and intervals.

There's even a program with undefined rest intervals.

Re: Empty Workout
OK, thanks for the info. My pauses are usually unplanned but this is useful info nonetheless.
