Rod - what a superstar, and Carol for all her assistance in this new World Record. Massive achievement and hope you can sit down comfortably now. I cant do 5k at that pace any more.

Hi Susan, thank you for the kind words and the concern about my botty! :wink:

I did have a bit of trouble with sitting down and getting up from sitting down (although ok when actually sitting....) for a couple of days and I could still feel it in my Glutes 2 after 2 weeks but have gradually 'healed' and will be getting back to proper training on Monday the 19th, a month after the 100k.....with the plan set for 6 weeks then an attempt at improving my best Marathon time (1:59.0 pace)...so fingers crossed :D
67 year old, 72 kilo (159lbs), 5'8''/174cm (always the shortest on the podium!) male. Based just south of London.
Best rows as an over 60. One Hour.....16011 metres. 30 mins.....8215 metres. 100k 7hrs 14 mins.

Thank you Frank, it's not something I particularly want to do again....although I suppose I'll have to give it another go in 7 years when I'll be 70 and want to beat the 70-79 Lwt record :wink:

Hi Folks,

I don't post on here very often these days but try to read as much of it as I can and stay in touch with some of my old rowing friends....so putting this here to let you know I broke the World record for 100k in the 60-69 Lightweight Category today..as it's my 63rd Birthday so wanted to do ''63 miles (well...if you include the warm up!) on my 63rd.

I did 7 hours 14 minutes and 42.7 seconds (2:10.4 pace) which beats the old one by 22.3 seconds.

The coaching I've received from Eddie Fletcher was the key as his scientific training got me into shape...and my good lady wife Carol Woodward (who is well known as a world champion and record holder in her own right..) who fed me, mopped my brow and held the drink bottle with tube so that I could take on Carbs and Electrolytes.

Life in the ol' dog yet.....happy rowing folks :D
Hi Rod

congratulations, epic effort, im planning my endurance efforts this year to celebrate my 60th 1st Jan, do you think its got something you do with dementia that we get to such an age and decide to go for the longer distances??

On a serious note, interested in your comments re Eddie Fletcher, Im looking about for info on training for the distance including hydration/nutrition, i was wondering about Eddie Fletcher support too.

My plan is 60 endlf April/early May followed by 115997m towards the end of the year, not suite sure ill be breaking your WR though althohg as a HWi reckon id need to go faster still perhaps.
Age 61, on 2/01/22 I rowed 115,972m 11hrs 17m 57s and raised £19k for https://www.havenshospices.org.uk/ Thanks for all the support

You need the ''Indoor Rowing Long-Distance Guide'' on Eddie's website;
