Damn it! NOW IS BETTER THAN LATER! I didn't update my BikeErg PM5 because, hey, I'd rather go for a ranked 10km PR than play with firmware updates. Well ... I did a 10k ride, but because the PM5 wasn't calibrated before the piece, it's marked as 'Unverified'.

Well, one of the update features is supposed to make it easier to get a verification code for past workouts....although as a calibration issue, that might require more sacrifice...

I can only assume it's a calibration issue - pieces uploaded via ErgData automagically have their verification code entered. Oh well, once more into the fray!

So far, you’ve found several software bugs for ErgData! You should lobby for a finder’s fee, Zach!

The website did let me verify it. The PM5 must attach a verification code to only a small list of known distances. Since I hadn't updated the firmware on it, it didn't add the code automatically.

Updating firmware -

I had a little trouble with this so am sharing what I learned. Two things that are important before you get started:

- consider getting some brand new D cell batteries for your PM monitor. Mine said 93 percent life but needed more to fire up the flash drive.

- per Citroen, use a flash drive that isn’t high tech fancy - one of those 1 to 5 gb storage size. The monitor doesn’t read fancy usb 3’s (to my knowledge). I’ve kept a dedicated Concept2 flash drive forever. I updated it with latest firmware and it overwrites the old stuff.

- takes about 12 minutes to get it done

- you can check it off your list that quickly

Thanks! You’re exactly right about lots of rest and food. Most nights I’m in bed before 8:30.

Day 26 of 31 !!!

Guess we better put in an order for some additional super hero capes, as it looks like several more teammates will be joining Brett and Ron M at the greater than 500 K level (so designated by Jon T of the Free Spirits). Some amazing contributions to the meter tally continue - and, as Brett says, it's not without some pain...not all sunshine and rainbows is a good way to put it. Add in work and family time, and whew! There have been some write ups in the Concept2 blogs about Don Altrichter, a vet who rows for 8-9 hours a day during some of the Challenges - to produce meter totals of a whopping 3 million in a month. Sometimes when you see totals like 1 million or more for a Challenge, you wonder how it is being done. As Brett details, it is with a lot of time and sacrifice.

It definitely takes the whole team, and what we each can contribute, to move through the Challenge! We're still in the 9th position on the leaderboard - and that is saying something !
