Hi everyone,
Just popping in to say that Sébastien needs us to sort out our 8's in the indoor rowers league. I had a look and we currently have three boats :
- High Flyers 20, with 12 rowers,
- High flyers 20 boat II, with à lone rower,
- High flyers 18, with 5 rowers

The max number of rowers per team is 10, with the top 8 scores counting each month. We basically have enough for two teams, and in any case High Flyers 20 has to be pared down to 10 members. There's also a few people signed up who haven't logged a score yet.

We can assign ourselves to a specific team (I just joined HF 20 as a test), but I'm not sure if the "team captain" has the power to move people around.

That's the info I've got for now, and if I understand correctly we need our teams set in stone by tonight.

hi there Ewen and thanks for the heads up - I have been wrestling with both getting an entry done and how to sort out the sudden explosion in our team numbers. Terry and I both got one done tonight
What seems to me to make the most sense is that Dave Moores, Terry Dargan and I join the 2018 team as it already has a critical mass and that leaves ten in the high flyers and will try to get the single member of team 2 to come across to the 18 team as well rather than trying to get us all to migrate across to the other one. I think we have until midday October 1 (Europe time) to get that done.
If harry the hamster is listening it would be great if he can move his profile to forum flyers 18 and if there are others then get their entries in
The only problem is that it is unlikely that we will get 8 entries in for the second team for this month at least as not a full book.
Still think that is the only option for us unfortunately
it is nice to have a XS numbers problem though!

AND 7th BOAT JUST FLOATED!!

Here's a fun bit of analysis for all of you in the Fall Team Challenge.

You can look at the same analysis for any other team here

Jon
Thanks for putting this together - it's a motivational reminder for me, for sure. I've fallen off the wagon a bit because I've been spending more time on my new bicycle than on my erg the past couple of weeks. The honeymoon phase will ease up soon, I'm sure, and I'll soon start racking up some more meters rowing and fewer biking ... probably. Also, recent gorgeous fall weather in my part of the world is making it harder to stay indoors.

I'm in HF 20 and would be happy to move over if needed. Not sure how to tell if we've rebalanced enough yet.

Also happy to be move, or be moved, as necessary to rebalance our boats. Let me know if I need to do anything.

Now with added stats of dubious value - https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... _teams.php

...or direct to Forum Flyers here -> https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... 29&id=5360

It's impressive to see a team where the distribution of rowers is very even - lots of people working hard rather than some teams with a massive dependency on big metres from a small number of members.
Nice addition Jon. Also good to see some numbers backing up the feeling that we have a good solid participation. It might be interesting to add to your overall leaderboard to give a measure of who the most balanced and unbalanced teams are (over a certain number of participants maybe). Probably a simple standard deviation could work (says the guy with an honours degree in statistics, but can't remember much about it :)).

CTC update: Fortunate are we to have a boat VII which will float with the addition of one more entry. Only two days to go. Time to lean on wives and lovers. [Mr. Babbs quicker on the draw]
Looks like we have another floater. And I'm sure Mr Woodley is grateful to be leaving someone else on the dock for a change :).

Great effort all.

I just popped an entry in, and saw we had a surplus which is great. I'm happy to move back to the 2018 team. I had some problems when I changed my profile team entry earlier in the month, but Sebastien sorted me out manually. Hopefully they've fixed the gremlins now. (Just tried to change - not working, so will have to pester Sebastien again.)

I think it is good to have space in the 2nd team, because we should be able to get a few more into there in the coming months.

Also a reminder to everyone that you can also enter your 4 minute score at the FMMC site. Most months the events coincide with the IRL, and the Forum Flyers are represented there in most months (I noticed a lack of entries during August's marathon challenge!).

I really like the idea of trying to show the balance of each team. It would take quite a bit of rework though, given the way the thing is designed today. With my willing-novice status as a php developer and the limited time available before the challenge ends (and the need to get a life!) I suspect this may get filed on the "developments for next year or at least next team challenge" pile.

By the way, if you like tools like this and you are in the Nonathlon, you should take a look here too. This tool defaults to Freespirits, but just select Nonathlon as the data option and choose a heatmap. Clicking through on a rower gives you a pile of extra analysis. Like I said above, I need to get a life. :D

Roll up, roll up for the 03 minutes, we trained all September over the 5k, this is just another 10 mins or so.

First up, for me, it was in the training plan for R18, 2:12 or slower, capped the HR at 134, so wont be doing much faster than that this month and fully expect to be in the lower boats

If only, it were 3 minutes.

Our first boat has left the dock for the October CTC challenge!

It was a PB for me and the first time I have done the 30 minutes in under 2:40. (Big deal for me!). The 30:00 row is my usual Saturday morning routine so I have 4 more Saturdays in October to see if I can post another one that is even longer.

I am fully expecting to be back down in Boat V or VI by the end of the month, but I am happy to be in Boat I for an hour or two!

Well done Anna! Incremental improvement is what we all strive for (until you reach the peak and start the gentle backward slide)
Terry and I did a 30' this morning - mine @2:00 and his 2:02 with a bit left in the tank. Terry's is third in the rankings this season though which is pretty good of course. We will do it again later in the month I reckon.
