Gave it another go at 5km today. Knocked about 16-17 seconds off my previous PB. I only wanted to beat my previous best of 19:14 but sub 19 was in sight so I had to go for it! Happy with the unintentional negative splits too!

I was on the rower at work which has a PM3 so couldn’t use my HR monitor but I ended up at 182 bmp (on my Apple Watch) which is pretty much my max
Very nice Dave,
Sub-19 is a great milestone.

Did a 60 minute time trial today. Low expectations as i dont deserve a good time as i havent put in the hours. So i was expecting much - just hoping to complete it and hit 16km per the target.

Set off well. Thought id get a slight buffer as i knew id need it somewhere along the way. That happened at the 30 minute mark. Had to hop off the rower and adjust my fan and grab a drink. Lost 100 meters there. Didnt particularly revive me in any way but managed to slog home to the finish. Had a little sprint at the end and was glad to be done.

Didnt really enjoy that at all. Bum was numb for the majority, my form felt sloppy and generally just felt too hard today. Glad to get it over with. Just checked and beat my previous best by around 800 meters so cant be too upset really.

Amazing result, especially with a small break - this beats my PB. The 60 minute is a tough one in general but to me one of the hardest ones to get the pacing right. Seems simple to sit on a pace but going that for 60 minutes is hard as its not exactly slow, I tend to try to "build a cushion" on the 60 minute. Not optimal I am sure but I do that on a lot of the longer TTs.

YES! 10k PB - 36:51 :D

Without any exaggeration, this felt like a whole new level for me, hard to explain, but I'll try :)

My last 10k PB effort of 37:05 was really hard, I did 248-250W for the first ca. 8k and then paced up, the second half was tough and I seriously thought about HD.
Today my plan was to stay >250W and have a fast finish to get sub37.
After about 4k I thought "this feels easier than last time, good sign" but thought the second half will get tough.
At 6k I waited for the pain to come, but no pain! It was taxing, but not more.
At 7k I thought "still no pain, OK, but don't risk the sub37 PB, so I only slightly paced up.
At 8k I was absolutely sure to reach my goal and paced up more, and the last k felt great, good pace, good rating and I didn't fall off the erg at the end :)

I'm so happy with this effort, but to be honest I think there was a good bit more possible, definitely sub 36:45 and maybe close to 36:30.

If this wasn't a "once in a lifetime form" day then I think all my 5k+ PBs can be crushed soon, today's pace was faster than my 30' PB and 16k for 60' are in reach I think, 15W less and 23' more is a fair tradeoff :)

Sorry for this long post, but the last few months were not very satisfying with both 2k and sprint prep ending bad, so joy is even bigger right now!

10k today - 41:27,8.
I have had a cold that kept me off the erg for almost a week and have only done a couple very slow recovery rows since. Today I wanted to add some sweat and planned for a 10k with 2:10 / 2:05 alternative 500 m. But it felt so good I ended up under 2:08 / 2:03 instead and with negative splits all the way. Great feeling!
Congratulations!
Great job.

🚨 5km PB -13s 🚨
Opened up the engine this morning for a hard 5km. I had intended for this to be a sighter to gauge where I am but it felt good so I carried on and was over the moon to knock 13s off my old PB 😁. The last of my old HWT PBs to fall.

Image

It did highlight how breaking 18' is going to be very hard but it's a good target to have.

Well done mate, really good result. Big chunk to knock off.

If this was only a sighter, and based on a lot of recent restricted training, then breaking 18 may not be so tough with some dedicated training. That last 1k shows the potential is there.

Been a couple of years since I posted on here but I have been lurking. Kept up with rowing but not pushing hard and took a few months off last year. Last 6 months I have been training hard again (weights and erg). I've dropped a decent amount of weight (20lbs/9kg) but kept or even built muscle. Anyway, I am pleased to say I set my first new PB in 2.5 years today by knocking 6.9' off my previous 5k PB (18.24.9). This was my result:

18:18.0 at 1:49.8 and my 1k splits:

1.50.9 r27
1.51.1 r29
1.50.7 r29
1.50.1 r29
1.46.0 r31

Hopefully my 30 min (7,968) and 10k (38.29.0) are in reach soon.

5000m - 19:50,4 - 27 spm - 131 resistance
1:59,5
1:59,4
1:59,3
1:59,0
1:57,9

Stats looks better than it felt. I guess I am not used to a sustained “harder” effort. I had decided to see if I could stay under 2:00 and it felt like it would be really hard after just 500 m because 5k just felt so long, but it kind of did not get harder and I had some left in the tank last 200 m.
