Chain Oiling Hook

Hi, Just got the rower in May during the pandemic and one of the first maintenance items was to oil the chain after 50 hours of use. My wife helped me during the first oiling, but I thought there may be a way to let me do this on my own. I have not done an extensive search to see if a device existed for this, there may well be. But ass I'm a DIY kind of guy...

I made hook from a coat hanger that fits on the rower and holds the chain in an exposed position that makes chain oiling simpler.

Bravo!! Great idea! This'll be my next DIY project after I finish off a few more pressing honey-do's.

I've thought about doing that very thing...but usually just ask my wife to come and hold the handle while I oil the chain.

We have to keep our families involved and engaged in the time of Covid.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I think I would have made the forward-most section a tad longer and added one more bend to the vertical part so there was a bit of wire pointing backwards, to make it less likely that the chain would slip off while I was oiling the chain. That of course makes it a bit more difficult to put the chain onto the hook, but better safe than sorry IMO.

Longer hook is a good idea and so is a bit more bend angle...
I do have it bent more than 90 degrees so it is self hooking. Holding up my adjustable triangle to it, it looks like a 105° bend

Go for it.
I actually find it easier to hook the chain first, then slip it over the end of the rail - opposite of what I show in the video - but either way works.
Our rower is getting close to 200 hours, so it will need doing again.

Also handy when you want to check the bungee cord tension with a hand luggage scale.

I can feed rower handle through the spindles of our dining room chairs & pull out enough chain to lube full length. Simple, quick one-man job. What the Queen doesn't know ain't gonna hurt her!

Minimum to produce chain retraction without slack and slapping around at moderate stroke rates. Seem to recall 3-4kb from trigger pull scale. Sprinters rushing recovery to expedite high rate accept chain slap as part of the game and don’t worry about it.

Thanks for sharing - worked a treat and saved me using a bungee cord attached to a toolbox
