Cracking result Dino,
Well done for gutsing it out when you were wavering at 24-27. How you have any energy for more rowing after a PB is beyond me, but I guess that's the endurance you've built coming to the fore.
Cheers Max :)
Not a great increase but age group percentile wise very happy with where I sit.
Felt it today as got sucked into going much quicker than planned. The pain subsides quickly and 30 mins is a different pain from 2k or shorter.
Looking forward to you posting here soon with 5k result :D

Halfway through my 16 week C2 2k training plan and it’s TEST day :?
Wanted to go sub 6:50 and planned to concentrate on a consistent 1:42.5 pace for the first 1,000 then squeeze it down a fraction.
Very pleased with the end result - 7 seconds off my previous (over 50) PB. :D

Throwing this in here as its a PB but only because its my first time doing it.
The session today called for a 6km time trial. My target was to hit the first km in 1.46.5 and slowly try to chip off time.

The last few days the seat on my rower keeps making a banging noise when i slide up the shaft so to speak. really irritating. So after my warmup i spent 20 minutes taking the seat off. Changed the hole for one of the rollers, re-assembled and still the same. I didnt have the right size key to change the lower rollers. I've also read somewhere that the brackets may be ever so slightly bent but they looked fine.

So with the seat banging away i set off. 5 fast pulls then quickly settled into hitting 1.46's but the average pace is quicker due to the fast start.
Mind games at half-way and i desperately wanted to quit at 4km in. But i also wanted to go sub 21 and fortunately the the desire for that was greater than the pain. Didnt have much in the tank for a sprint finish but i was able to hold on. This one hurt like hell

6k is an odd ranked distance, only ever done it once myself as part of the heptathlon challenge.
Willpower is definitely a big component of rowing! Super fast time Ian... and good you could put seat issues out of your mind too. Mentally very strong!

Great effort mate, sub21 is a big milestone! :)
Your rating looks relative low compared to your recent TTs, was there a specific target from your coach or just unintended?

thanks Martin. No guidance on the rating but i have been working on controlling the rating more. So it was a conscious effort on my part to keep my rating around 28 for the first km and then slowly build so i'd have "somewhere to go" as the pain built.

Well done Dave. Slight F&D there; perhaps you could chop another few tenths off with a more conservative start? Not that you'll be wanting to do another all-out effort any time soon...

Cheers Max. Yes there was an element of fly and die to it but it went almost perfectly to plan. I was aiming for 1:44, 1:46, 1:46 and then whatever was left in the tank for the last 500m. I was just slightly too quick with the first 500m

After (another) day off yesterday when gardening/yard work was enough exercise for one day, debated what to do today... swung between 'I really should do some sharp intervals' to 'an hour SS will do' to 'maybe I'll have a crack at 30min PB'....

In the back of my mind I was thinking maybe 7777 was possible (+70), but this idea went south after 5k as any thoughts of a ramp up was replaced by lets just get this done. I almost let it go between 24-27 mins, but once into last 3mins wasn't going to chuck away 27 mins of effort! Deep into the red zone and just about hit MHR at the end. Was already double breathing with 10 mins to go and last two mins just sucking in what I could!

Ended up +22m on PB from last year with 7730m :

1k WU

30:00.0 783m 1:54.9 230 1093 24 170

I was rowing a route on Zwift at the time... so after grabbing a drink and spending just a minute on the side of the road, knuckled down again to complete the Innsbruck Lutscher route I was on although I didn't realise it was a lap and a half to complete the route with a second trip up to a summit, so after 5k jacked it in and will have to re-do that route another day

Then a proper WD just slowly spinning on my bike for 10 mins.
Great effort with consistent pacing overall. I think you have some more in you for sure.

Mind games at half-way and i desperately wanted to quit at 4km in. But i also wanted to go sub 21 and fortunately the the desire for that was greater than the pain. Didnt have much in the tank for a sprint finish but i was able to hold on. This one hurt like hell
6k is very much an issue with mind games. It's short enough to think it's comparable with a 5k and not long enough for you to treat it with more respect.

This is a really strong result, and gives me something to aim for sometime soon. I think I have only ever done a 6k four times, maybe only three but sub 21, eventually, is a big milestone for me.
