I've just joined the Forum Flyers too. Supplementing my virtual running races with some rowing challenges so I hope to have a go at the Indoor Rowers League as well as contributing to the Fall Team Challenge.
Hi Spike - welcome indeed - captain Dave will drop by soon as well to say Hi. there is a link to our team a few posts back.
It is great to see our new members joining
No hard and fast rules and all levels here
Can you share name/where you live/age/lwt/hwt and a bit of training story?
The main monthly challenge is the CTC - you just sign up for that and put in a monthly entry as FF - its in the notes. this month is a 5k and each one is very different.
The Fall challenge is also a good way of getting meters - starts sept 15 just sign up and start logging.

Sounds like the Rower's League is similar to CTC. Why not?! ☺️ I've signed up. Just waiting until there are enough signed up before we can start trying for a time to enter?
I tried to see how to enter a time earlier, but it would not let me. I presume we have to wait till we have enough people signed up?
there is no requirement for number of people before joining - the site may not be active yet - try again in a couple of days - the 4 minute is open until the end of the month and will be added to our team as numbers grow.

Quick intro, as I think I just successfully joined the Forum
Flyers! My name is Kenneth. I’ve had a Model D for a few years, and have recently started using it more consistently. Now I just need a community and some healthy competition to get past the noob stage. Really looking forward to being part of this!
that is great Kenneth - welcome from Oz. Where do you live? Age and lwt/hwt??

Have a look at the "Noob" thread at the top of the training sub forum above here - it summarises a lot of what is needed and some really useful links as well. The challenges will provide some structure - no need to push too hard it takes a while to get erg fit

Thanks! I'm in the United State, Indiana. I'm 45, hwt -- 185cm, 98kg (did I do that right? 6'1" / 215lbs). I don't totally understand the lightweight/heavyweight thing, but I think I will always be heavyweight even once I drop down to a lean body comp -- my goal is to get back to 87kg.

I've been a weight lifter for years, but became highly injury prone once I got into my 40's. The rower was always just a small supplement to weight lifting. Now, I think it's going to be a key part of getting back in shape and focusing on being a lean and strong old man. :D

Read through the Noob thread yesterday and found a ton of help. Thank you!

Alright...my noob 1st attempt at 4 minutes is 1078m. The Rower's League website is having some kind of error, so I can't enter it, but I'm looking forward to seeing what's "normal" so I have a goal to work toward.

Finally was able to convince my wife to join the team. She is just an occasional paddler for fitness...she enjoys the bike much more. But she is a female lightweight so I told her she’d be a valuable asset in floating a boat for the team. Which she did today as we floated boat #1 this month. I told her not to get too comfortable in her seat in Boat #1 :-). But she is a little competitive, so this might push her into being more serious on the rower.

Brief Background...
Linda Voorhees (wife of fellow Forum Flyer Marc Voorhees)
Age 64 (soon to be 65)
Lives in Asheville, NC, USA
Recovered from left knee and left hip replacement back at the beginning of 2019.
Rows just for fitness, along with SkiErg and BikeErg.

LindsayH-

Definitely interested in joining the Indoor Rowing League as further training motivation. Tried to sign up...but when it came to picking a team...I saw Forum Flyers...but not the High Flyers 2020 name that you mentioned. I am obviously doing something wrong...and suggestions? Unless this was an IQ test to join the team and I failed :-(

Hi, Marc!

In Indoor Rowing League you can select High Flyers 2020 in 8on8 team name option. Then choose Forum Flyers as your IRC team, as seen in pic (just below 8on8 team option)

Nice result! Looks like the IRL site is still having some technical problems because I can’t enter mine either. It was my first 4-minute time trial, too. I hit 1,166m, which I’m pretty happy with. Kklabunde, if you’re logging your meters on the Concept 2 web site, you will be able to rank the piece and see how you did compared to to other rowers of your gender, age group and weight group.

Harry-

Odd...on my sign up screen there is not an “8on8 team name” selection option between the weight selection and the IRC team selection as you show in your picture. I have tried to attach a screenshot to show you (it “might” be attached?)....there is the weight selection and the IRC selection..,but no “8on8”. Sorry for my ineptness. I will keep playing with it to see what I am doing wrong.

Harry- Never mind. Problem solved. When I registered...the 8on8 was not an option...but once I registered, I went back to edit my profile...and the 8on8 team was an option...and I chose High Flyers 2020. So should be all set. Sorry if that was all in your original email.

Thanks,
—Marc
