Halfway through my 16 week C2 2k training plan and it’s TEST day :?
Wanted to go sub 6:50 and planned to concentrate on a consistent 1:42.5 pace for the first 1,000 then squeeze it down a fraction.
Very pleased with the end result - 7 seconds off my previous (over 50) PB. :D

Nothing amazing but gave it’s my all at 500m today for the first time so was going to be a PB regardless. 1:30.7

I had the drag factor at 160 which I think might have been too high! Will try again in a few days with a lower DF

Drag is very individual, no "one-fits-all", so testing different drags is a good idea. What was your rating?

Good stuff Dave. That pesky 0.7 will shave off next time. I agree with the DF - but it’s a personal thing - try 130 in training 1’ on/1’ r stuff and see what pulling 1:30- feels like.

I was feeling sheeping about posting this here, since it's the first time I'm doing a 60 minute session and anything would be a PB. Then I realised that it was faster than my 10k PB (2:08.2) from June, so here we are! I just wanted to tick off a 14k 60' from the list. I knew it wouldn't be too difficult and would be a UT1 session. It was a mental slog and towards the end also a physical slog. My heart rate was under control (I have a 175 cap for UT1), but my body wasn't used to rowing 14k non stop. I couldn't resist the sprint at the end though! I think a true all out effort would be 2:05ish, but I'll save the suffering for when I can break 15k.

Well done. My first ever hour was 14017 and it was a struggle to get over the 14k mark. It seems a long way the first time that's for sure.
Its something you need to get used to, but you can also do 2 x 30m, 3 x 5k etc. rather than straight 60m until ready to do it again. I have been doing 60 min group rides on Zwift on my rower and the time flies by. Looks like your 10k will need revisiting now :)

Good stuff, Dave. The drag factor is very personal, although I think that if you're rating very high, then 160 might have been okay. That said, I rated 48 for my 1' at DF 132. Any higher just feels too heavy for me. A bit of experimentation will see you right.

Great job but now you have to get below 1:30 on next go. Other have said to experiment a little with the DF and I agree, more is not always better.

I have always said the first time you do something it's a legit PB! That's how I celebrated my FM. Anyway, good work getting over 14K, now you can just build from there. It's good you went faster at the end to show you had a lot more on the tank.
