Compare rankings
Re: Compare rankings
Excellent tool - very useful
It's great to see where you sit across all time rather than season by season. The percentile looks good when no season selected (i.e. all seasons).
If you then search for your name though looks like percentile is recalculated for just the results that match your name rather than just filtering the view.
Everything is 'th' as well but this a minor thing. i.e. not 'st', 'nd', 'rd' when applicable.
Did C2 have to do anything for you to pull out the data?
Is it a live query to C2 or do you pull the data e.g. daily?
I had been thinking about something similar myself although was happy enough to have it all as an XLS for self manipulation - you have done a great job!

Re: Compare rankings
Awesome tool! I especially like the option to see how I rank against all others my age or older. Bedankt Siebe!
I run in the mud, I sweat on the erg, and I happily battle the years...

Re: Compare rankings
Thanks.
Since there are so many ways to retrieve the data, rank and percentile are calculated on the fly.
I could hide the column if you search via the search-box?
At the moment I hide rank and percentile if you mix machine-types and/or event-types.
Help me , what is the difference?
No, I have written a crawler that does does the job.
Every night the latests rankings are updated
Main reason was that I like to know where I'm standing to fellow Dutchmen over the years. And I thought there will be probably more like me...and of course not only Dutchmen

1 = first = 1st
2 = second = 2nd
3 = third = 3rd
4 = fourth = 4th
and so on...
e.g
81 = eighty-first = 81st
or maybe just leave it off and put a number only so makes sense to all nationalities, e.g. I know in French they use a superscript e, er, d, and Dutch is this just an e?
I guess more coding required to make the search box only filter visible rows without causing any recalculations?
It would be good to e.g. filter on your name and then you can see all your ranked results for all time with the percentile number against them... but whatever is easiest for you... hide it maybe - I know how public domain personal coding projects can morph into taking a lot of your time!!

I went for your first option, since most visitors will recognize the concept2-concept.
What I also noticed is that concept2 does not show percentile when total results are less than 10. That seems to make sense. So I followed that rule as well.
I use my own framework to generate the webapp which uses also Solr: https://lucene.apache.org/solr/ for fast search.Dino wrote: ↑August 18th, 2020, 8:24 am

To accommodate your suggested filtering would bring some serious coding. So for now I excluded rank's and percentile's when the search-box is used.

Re: Compare rankings
Thank you Martin.
After a good sleep I seem to have an idea how to show the percentile also when you search your name. That would be even more nice I suppose.

Re: Compare rankings
The idea was not optimal for larger results. The db had then to define realtime percentile over results more than 250.000 records and then all things got too slow.
Next try would be to have pre-defined rankings per workout. But then I have to think about which combinations I want to store.
The current interface will give you percentile in regard to your choices for age, verified, country, gender, season and weight-class...

Re: Compare rankings
I have found a temporary workable solution:
If the overal query-result is smaller then 10.000 it will show rankings and percentile if also queried something via the search-box.
Best is first to narrow down your result to something useful, like your age-group, your country, weight-class en gender.
If the total count is less than 10.000 (i.e. here it is 3490 ) , use the search-box for your name, to get the wanted percentile and rank.

Re: Compare rankings
After several new ideas from others, the following changes:
- Automatic update result after filter change(not on mobile)
- Only show PB's option: filters all duplicate names after the first occurrence
- Add column km/h

Re: Compare rankings
One of my first posts on this forum was about a kind of allround tournament. I’m a big fan of ice speed skating and there are 2 kinds of multi discipline tournaments,
Allround: who is the fastest over 4 different distances: 500, 1500, 5000 and 10000 for men and 500, 1500, 3000 and 5000 for women.
Sprints: who is thé fastest over 2 pairs of 2 distances: 500 and 1000 for both men and women. .
Of course I was directed to nonathlon and of course I went for it
But now that rankedworkouts.com has made comparison easy I was thinking about creating different kind of such competitions.
And as nonathlon is doing find a way to compare results with age related decline taking into account. But then with more different approaches. Different athletic natures asking for different competitions.
The following competitions I could imagine for rowers and skiergs
Sprints: 100m, 500m, 1000m and 1 minute
All-round: 1, 4, 30 and 60 minutes
Endurance: 10k, hm, fm and 100k
For the bikerg:
Sprints: 200, 500, 1000 and 4000m
All-round: 1, 30 and 60 minutes + 4000m
Endurance: 30 and 60 minutes + 40k and 100k
Triathlon:
60 minutes skierg, 100k bikeerg and fm rower
Mini triathlon
30 minute skierg, 40k bikerg and 60 minutes rower.
Please let me know what your thoughts are?
If we come to some agreement the only thing you would have to do, is ranking your results as usual.
rankedworkouts.com will then use these results to create these different competitions.
