Super helpful to read other's notes.
Based my pace off of the CTC - 2-3secs.
Was able to push a little harder on the 4th but was hurting.
Pace for last CTC was 2:05
Paces/times for this were
2:02.2/2:03.5
2:02.3/2:03.6
2:01.5/2:02.8
2:00.8/2:02.1

If I try again can I change my time - should I enter the 2:03.6 now and try later in the month?

thats a cracking start, get it on the scoreboard. If you beat the time later in the month, just add as you did and the score will be updated automatically, overwritten as it were.

Nicely done, Suzanne. As Chris said, stick the score in and aim for another crack later in the month. Sometimes real life gets in the way, so it always helps to have something entered as early as possible in the month (says the guy who did last month's CTC on the 30th!).

Flat paced first 3 @1:45.2 last @1:45.0 (/500 pace)
terry was @1:53.5 pace for the slowest 2 =>> 2 boats floated

Sorry I've been absent. Had the first spinal steroid injection 12 days ago. And it HAS NOT HELPED AT ALL. It has only made pain WORSE and made it more difficult to walk and move around, even with my new walking stick.

Instead of having wrong feeling in my feet, now it is sometimes the whole leg that feels wrong. I have a followup appointment scheduled, I'm half afraid they are going to try and talk me into another injection. I'm for sure not agreeing to another until I've talked to my regular doctor.

Anyway, CTC and rowing in general seem unlikely right now, because the pain in my right butt has increased a LOT and I have some pain in the left butt where I didn't before. My ankles off and on feel like I have just sprained them, with stabbing pains. Knee pain is now both on the outside and inside of my knees. And if I kneel on anything, even lightly, the pain is excruciating. I've done no rowing, I'm barely walking. Sitting is often painful now, where before it gave me relief.

So that's what's up. I suppose some miracle could happen and the steroids finally kick in and soothe the nerves, but the pain diary they gave me only goes out to two weeks so I rather suspect if any pain relief was going to happen, it would've happened by now.

Good luck to everyone who can row! I'll be back if things change for the better!

Not great news, Cynthia. Hoping you find something that works soon.

Please keep checking in, even if you can't get scores in at the moment. The team is the sum of all the participation, so if you're off injured, then staying in contact on the forum helps keep that bond going. Some people don't want to post to the forum, but contribute on the CTC, etc., and that's also OK.

We're clearly a team that goes with the flow, and has a place to accommodate everyone who wants to join.

I've been quiet, thanks to work ramping up in recent weeks. Training has taken a back seat, but trying to at least get a session in when I have a chance. I did the May 2013 CTC of 5555m just because I'm still working through the list of past CTCs when I can't decide on a training session. I had skipped it back in 2013, so didn't have a score to shoot for, so just did it as a UT1 session.

I've been noticing my Garmin Dual heart rate monitor has been playing up on the BikeErg / Zwift. It starts drifting up slowly even when I'm maintaining a steady low pace. I have to take it off and give it a break and then put it back on, for things to return to normal. I've seen reports of static interference based on synthetic shirts rubbing on the strap, but I had a similar problem with a cotton shirt. I also thought this was maybe interference with the Zwift ANT+ connection maybe, but then Saturday's rowing session started showing the problem for the first time. I've ordered a Wahoo Tickr to see if that gives more reliable answers.

I don't mind high heart rates if I'm unfit and I can feel it, but it's annoying when you're cruising along at a gentle pace able to have a conversation easily, and it's hitting 180+!

Hey guys, just checking to let you know I am still alive :-). With the extreme heat in the Netherlands for the past 2 weeks I haven't touched the C2. Simply too hot to erg. I've been doing a lot of km's on the bike though and now that the weather is cooling down a bit I'll be picking up erging :-D

Hi all. I’m back to rowing after what seems like an eternity and am looking for a team to join. I’ve gone through some rough seas and looking for some solid ground on which to moor. I’m not as quick as I once was, not as lean, nor as young, but I’m looking forward to a new start.

I've just put in a time of 1:39.8 for the CTC. Wow man, that really hurt. Think I should be able to go faster but haven't been on the erg for weeks. Despite doing a lot of training on the bike I can still notice that erging is a very specific thing.

Well, how’s about dropping the hook here? Safe holding ground ⬇️

Done, thank you.

So, I’ve always gravitated to long distance work - abundance of slow twitch muscles, I imagine - but I think I’ll start on speed work to see how that goes. I’ve never followed any training plan, but rather just did long, steady rows without much thought of improving in any particular way - I actually enjoyed the monotony as it gave me time to think.

I’m now considering following some plan - not sure which yet - and maybe racing at some point in the future. I figure if I’m starting anew then I may as well move in a different direction and see how that goes. First, though, I need to re-establishing some base level of fitness.

Anyway, I’ve joined this team and hope to slowly get to know everyone and to start contributing a meter or two. I’m looking forward to the FTC with you all.

Welcome mardix!

We're always interested in backstory, where you are, age / gender, that sort of thing. As much as you're willing to share obviously!

We have the advantage of knowing some background on each other already, but there are plans for one day to publish some brief profiles so that new members can get the story behind the profile name on here!

Cheers
Dave

Despite a working weekend I decided I had to prioritise some exercise seeing work had blocked that during the week. I ended up doing an FTP test on the BikeErg to see where I am at the moment. Ran out time to do the full one, but the short one still ends up using the 20 minute x 95% approach, just with less prep time.

Started off the 20 minute block optimistically at 211W, targeting a 200W FTP, but after about 5 minutes that looked impossible, so I started dialling back the power to just under the 170W mark, before doing a mini kick at the end. Ended with an FTP of 177W, so that's probably a fair reflection of where I am at the moment.

I've been reading the Allen, Coggan and McGregor book Training and Racing with a Power Meter, and so might try and develop a mixed cycling and rowing plan for the coming months. Or just leave it to the professionals and use one of Zwift's plans for a bit, and then go back to my trusty Interactive Training Plan.

Yesterday I did the 38789m needed to get to 5 million metres on the BikeErg, which has taken just over 2 years. A lot easier to accumulate metres for me on the bike (would be a struggle to motivate myself to do regular 90 minute sessions on the rower, but much easier on Zwift).

Hoping for a free weekend this week, and have plans to take another crack at the CTC now that I know what I'm aiming for!

Dave
