In a strange way this can be a good thing. When you're maxing out your potential, PBs can be hard to come by.winniewinser wrote: ↑July 19th, 2020, 3:49 pmThanks chaps....been a long time since I had something to post in this thread
Admittedly this isn't infallible logic but as you get more experienced you know when to stick, when to twist and when to quit

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Agreed....plus these are not 100% effort as I'm restricting myself to around 90% MHR. So not many of my PB's will be breakable at that level for sure. The last 60' TT was around 90% so I may have a chance at that and possibly the 6K TT which seems light compared to others.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑July 20th, 2020, 4:09 amIn a strange way this can be a good thing. I did sense a little HR flutter late on in the HM yesterday so need to be sure not to get carried away

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks - yeah I follow similar negative splits for most rows and PBs but started this "cushion building" thing with longer rows as I prepared for my first FM and it has become a habit. It seems like an OK ides until your tired and an mind tells you that you have to slow down and it's OK to.max_ratcliffe wrote: ↑July 17th, 2020, 8:29 pmOutstanding time, Keith, your mixed feelings notwithstanding.
A positive split doesn't work for me - it's too easy to listen to the chimp when you're ahead of target (I nearly stopped with 800m to go of my HM last month, because I was ahead of the clock, and felt that I'd still get a PB after a rest!).
Doug shared this a while ago as a method of negative splitting. I might use it next time I'm doing a TT:
40% at target +1
30% at target
20% at target -1
10% at target -2.
So for a 36' 10k, you'd do 4k at 1:49, the next 3k at 1:48, 2k at 1:47 and then the final 1000m at 1:46. I think.

I never thought I'd do another HM after walking like John Wayne post my first one in December . The distance feels relatively comfortable now.
