I live in the Gulf Coast area, in the US. As some of you may be aware, it gets rather humid, tends to stay that way, even in Winter.

Today was no exception. I've had my rower for about 21 months now. I use my rower, for the most part, every day, although I may have missed a total of 5 days in the past 21 months due to travel. After each workout, I use glass cleaner on the slide and wipe it down. But - what I'm seeing on the rear foot/stand (not sure what you'd call it - the part that the rear of the rower rests on.) is some rust. I immediately squirted some WD-40 on it..and it's very small - I'm not worried about it rusting through, but if there's a little now, I'm wondering how I can minimize this.

Further, now I'm wondering why C2 didn't use rust-proof paint. My mind is blown. It doesn't look like my rower is going to last 20 years in my garage - which has a door, and it doesn't get rained on; I suspect there's just too much humidity.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to minimize this rust development? I can't bring the rower in my house, I just don't have the room for it.

California is very dry, so less of a chance for rusting. Would keeping an appliance that removes the humidity in your garage help with the rusting? Just a thought...

I thought you meant kitchen. We used to get a lot of kitchen spam on here (and the old filter has never been removed). We're currently getting lots of bedroom spam. The mind boggles why they think they'd get that junk on here. I didn't think de-humidifier was on any blocked words list (it is).

You lucky guy, you!! Whenever I want to do or buy or put stuff, I always have to clear it with the "higher authority".

WD40 encourages rust. I would clean off the WD40, saturate the area with oil, then clean it again.

Are you 100% sure about this?

I've had good luck with it.

A quick search online finds this:

WD40 works temporarily and then dissipates, attracting dust, dirt, and eventually causing rust.
Here's a good video about WD40 and bearings. WD40 removes lubricants, and it is not a good lubricant.

I don't use it on bearings. But I do use it to clean surfaces, and it does seem to provide some protection from corrosion.

Our house is quite small, one bedroom, 2 bath, about 1400 sq ft. I keep mine disassembled, which makes for a rather tidy package against a wall. Even "She Who Must Be Obeyed" doesn't mind. I'm sure she would raise heck if I kept it assembled in the middle of the sunroom.

1,400sq ft??? That's a really big house in the UK. Some of the two bed flats nowadays are 650sq ft and I'd guess that an average house is 1,000-1,100 sq ft
