I wanted to post a bad day, since I usually post the good. I did 7:41 7 weeks ago at a drag factor of 110, where I fell apart in the last 500m. Lungs were okay, but arms and legs couldn't hang on. This time, the target was sub 7:20 at the BRVC which I thought I was 95% to get. On Monday, I did a 4 minute piece at 1:48.9 where my ending HR was 184 (max is over 200 while running, 191 while rowing). It felt comfortable.

Today, my race was at 11:40 and I always exercise before breakfast. I had a big breakfast and then did the Eddie Fletcher warm up (which I also did on Monday). It felt REALLY hard today though and I was worried. It was hotter than usual and I started worrying that I tapered too much. Anyway, sub 1:50 or bust. So the race began and I did everything I could to keep it sub 1:50. First 500m were fine, but my HR was already at 182 which was worrying. It was at 174 after 500m of the 4 minute piece. With 500m to go, I just fell apart and couldn't hang on. My legs were burning and again like the last 2k I felt my legs give away rather than my lungs.

After the race, I felt dizzy and nearly fainted and felt like throwing up. It took me 30 minutes to get back to normal. I've done intense 100% effort pieces before and this is not normal for me. If I had to guess what happened today, I would guess the big breakfast and the heat played its part.

I used a drag factor of 125 today (used 130 for the 4 minute piece). It might have just been a bad day. 18 second PB though. I have no doubt that if I had just done my 2k on Monday, I would have gone at least 7:18.

7:23.4 2,000m 1:50.8 257 1184 29 186
1:49.9 500m 1:49.9 264 1207 31 182
1:49.7 1,000m 1:49.7 265 1212 30 186
1:50.0 1,500m 1:50.0 263 1205 29 188
1:53.8 2,000m 1:53.8 237 1117 28 188
Well done, you should do another 2k next week as I agree you can take more time off with more suitable preparation. Racing starts and enforced race times aren't easy to manage

Hey guys,
I've done two 2k time trials before, but I had never taken a shot at a 1k. Did my first 1k time trial on the erg today, and I was really happy with the result.

Time Meters Pace S/M
3:09.3 1,000m 1:34.6 33
:47.7 250m 1:35.4 34
:47.2 500m 1:34.4 33
:47.8 750m 1:35.6 33
:46.5 1,000m 1:33.0 32

This also gives me the confidence with the doubling the distance +5 seconds/500m rule, that I could potentially crack 6:40 on a 2k soon (as +5 would put me at 1:39.6/500m or a 6:38-6:39). This would be a great PB for me given that my previous best was 6:49 (a little over a month ago). I'm most likely going to do that 2k next weekend, so I'm very excited!
Very good result, and your fast last 250m is a very promising sign

Thought I’d try my luck with 5km again today. After yesterdays 2km I convinced myself that 5km at a considerably slower than 2km pace should feel ok.
Target was 1.44 and a fast start to get under average, focussing on keeping rate high.

Last time splits 3 and 4 were my slowest by quite a bit so I really wanted to hold pace through that section and I knew If I could then the result was there for the taking.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
17:14.7 5,000m 1:43.4 316 1387 31
3:26.0 1,000m 1:43.0 320 1402 29
3:27.3 2,000m 1:43.6 314 1381 30
3:27.0 3,000m 1:43.5 316 1386 31
3:27.8 4,000m 1:43.9 312 1373 32
3:26.7 5,000m 1:43.3 317 1391 34

I think that’s it now for time trials for a few weeks. Work is going to be mental for quite a bit so I’ll just work on building my base
Another whopper mate, but I can't say I'm surprised. Your plateau in progress has been delayed until 2022

PB by default today as I got through my first Full Marathon unscathed. The new Citius Remex seat pad really worked well and I was relatively comfortable. I did have to make a loo stop around 24k but no other issues. Jelly babies and banana for energy and plenty of salty juice.

I would probably do this again unrestricted when my HR issues are resolved. For now I'll get back to my own plan. Pleased to get it under 2:15 and felt ok for a bit of a blast at the end to get it done quicker.

Post FM headache kicked in within an hour of finishing and still hangs around now. Overall I feel OK just with slightly saw sitting bones/glutes.
I will be going after a sub 3hr at some point and also hoping to PB my HM.....just not this week
