A PB only because its my first attempt at a free rate 30 minutes.
Thought i would aim for 1.49's based off my best 30R20 of 1.52 - thats about all the science i threw it at.

I set off far too ambitiously and paid the price. With 13 minutes to go my mind was begging me to stop. Had to start counting from 1-5 and 1-10 to distract myself - just aiming for under 10 minutes to go knowing I wouldnt be pulling out then.
With 10 minutes to go I was back on track and had to put in a good effort to beat the 1.49 pace boat.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
30:00.0 8,258m 1:48.9 270 1230 26 173
6:00.0 1,678m 1:47.2 284 1275 27 161

30:00.0 1,652m 1:48.9 271 1231 27 184

It's been a while since I last posted here but I'm glad I now have an excuse.

Lockdown has been good for me - consistent Pete Plan since January and I just beat my first proper PB since 2017, knocking 4s off my 5k to get 18:33.3

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HR
18:33.3 5,000m 1:51.3 254 1172 29 171
3:42.3 1,000m 1:51.1 255 1177 29 160
3:42.6 2,000m 1:51.3 254 1173 29 166
3:42.5 3,000m 1:51.2 254 1174 28 171
3:43.2 4,000m 1:51.6 252 1166 28 177
3:42.7 5,000m 1:51.3 254 1172 29 181

Not bad after turning 40! In Jan I could barely reach 20min.
Well done, PBs are always special

Usually do 4 x6 mins with 4R on Thursdays but training has been going well so decided to test 5K. Not sure how I would go as did 1 hour of intervals on Wattbike last night.Very pleased to get a new PB. It has given me hope that a few more months training and rested up that sub 18 might be possible this year.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
18:08.6 5,000m 1:48.8 271 1233 29 171
3:41.1 1,000m 1:50.5 259 1191 29 151

3:37.7 3,000m 1:48.8 271 1233 29 175
3:36.1 4,000m 1:48.0 277 1254 30 180
3:33.9 5,000m 1:46.9 286 1284 30
Excellent result Phil, well done!
Thanks Alex. Was pretty pleased with it but it was tough. The last kilometre was very unpleasant.
The 5km is my new bogey distance I think....not done a TT since my PB last year and I'm not sure how I managed that. If/when I get the all clear from the Doc I will have to address that.

Really well paced by the look of things but the HR reading tells a story of pain

Today.... it was the ''BIG ONE'', the Marathon,

Delighted to report I set a new British record in the 60-69 year olds Lightweight (under 75 kilo) Category.

2:47:22.5

1:59.0 pace

It also beat the Hwt record...so there's a target for you Nick Rockliff!

I was ably encouraged by my wife Carol Woodward and got into shape for it thanks to some great coaching from Eddie Fletcher so the record splits 3 ways I think!

I'm now going to start a 3 month training program with Eddie for a 100k and see if I can break the British Record for that one...as it's roughly 63 miles it will make a nice thing to do on my 63rd Birthday in September...that should earn me a decent sized bit of cake!

Wow!! Really well done Rod. That’s a great pace at any age.
Any of Eddie’s golden nuggets that you are free to pass on?

Thanks Tony, I benefit from a lot of long ''slow'' rows at 18 spm and below 70% of MHR.

I'd recommend searching on google for ''Stephen Seiler, Polarised training'' as a lot of good info will come up...also google ''Maffetone Method'' as that's interesting stuff too.

First hard go at it so had to be a PB, but pleased to get at my 5k pace. Suppose I’ll have to try to squeeze that one down a bit now.
