Erdata in the Background for Video (Android)

Post by Ebay@parohh.de » May 23rd, 2020, 6:35 pm

Hi.

Is it possible, to let Ergdata run in the background on an Android Device? I would like to record my performance data in Ergdata, yet, while rowing the erg, I would like to watch a concert our movie, e.g. on YouTube or Netflix.

I tried it out last week and it seemed to work: I could start practice with Ergdata in the fore- or background and it would record my data. I could also switch back and forth from YouTube to Ergdata and back. However, I tried only for a minute or two. Yet, when I had finished my interval program after 90 minutes, there was nothing there.

Coincidence, user mistake, stupidity on my side or what wish could be the reason.

Please help!

Thanks

Jan

ErgData can't run in the background. A while ago they implemented it but there were many problems and I think they took it out. But if your Android is new enough you could run ErgData in split screen with YouTube, or run Netflix PIP. (Netflix doesn't support split screen.)

My experience is that running Ergdata in the background does work. The problem is in saving the workout.
If you run ergdata in the background and switch back to ErgData, you see that it has to load the data from the PM5, it doesn't refresh the data while in the background. And there lies the problem. If you run it in the back and end your workout on the PM5, then switch to ergdata, it refreshes but gets nothing back from the PM5. Hence no recording. If you do a 90 min workout and switch back to ergdata on 89 minutes, finish the workout with ergdata in the foreground it won't be a problem.

So: Yes, ergdata can run in the background but in order to save your workout you have to finish the workout with ergdata running live!
