Massive rate too. I could hold that SPM for about a minute before turning into a fish that has jumped out of its bowl!

The slow rate training is going nowhere at the moment, but learning to rate up has made a big difference to my efforts in the short stuff. Henry made some comment a while ago along the lines of "why would you try to row like a tall heavyweight if you're short" that struck home.
I will be interested to see if I can extend the higher rate stroke to 2k (not 35spm - that would definitely end in an HD), but not 26spm either.

10 seconds off my 10k time.
OK it’s only my second time at it and the first time I just wanted to see if I could come in under 40mins.
This time I did it as part of the Heptathlon Challenge and as it was the first event I took it steady. Looks like I may have to ‘pain up’ and have a proper crack at it.

This was totally unexpected as I did my neck in yesterday and could barely move - so hardly slept and was hobbling about all morning. As the morning wore on I loosened up a little but I resigned myself to a few days off. Out of interest, i did jump on the rower for 3 seconds at a low drag just to see how it felt. If i stayed completely rigid it was ok.
Anyway, big lunch of fish and chips and I was just about to settle down for the arvo - when the baby went off for a sleep. I thought i cant miss this opportunity so i'll go in the garage and just do a light and easy 10km to get the blood moving - as it might help with recovery.
Low and behold the session was feeling good and I was feeling better and better as it was progressing. I settled on a higher Stroke rate than normal and was just playing around doing rate ladders to keep things interesting. It was only when i go to 8km I saw that i might be able to sneak under 37 minutes if I pushed.
Thats a 58 second improvement in 4 days and my best before that was 38.31 from the start of May. Well chuffed!

funny how when you are not expecting to do good, it seems like all tention is removed, and suddenly you get a PB! Very strong last 2k too.

10 secs improvement, with obvious reluctance to go too hard, is a great result.

I'm really not sure how you're doing it; short and long distances, injuries and all whilst you're still getting used to rowing

Planning on an hour of steady state, but got a bit sidetracked with yard work, so had a crack at the ugly step child as part of the heptathlon.
Bare bones:
6000, 23:23.8, 1:56.9
1k splits:
3:52.2, 3:53.2, 3:53.2, 3:53.9, 4:00.8, 3:49.4
Chimp was agitating a lot with 2k to go, so I slowed down between 1500 and 1000 to go.

By my reckoning according to your signature that's 2 x PB for the price of 1 as you would have gone through 5k in 19:33?
If you target 5k you must be looking at ~19:25 now
