How Beneficial Is What I'm Doing?

Alright. I'm 16, and I've found rowing to be by far the best cardio-type-workout I can get. My family has had an old C2 rower (I've used the new one and actually like the old one better), and i've really just started using it consistently. My real sport is baseball and I pitch (if the username didn't give it away...), so anyways, I've been doing kind've rowing sprints of 500m, either 5 or 6 of them. Tonight I did 5 500m sprints in 9:00 flat, and that whooped my butt (I took 30 second breaks in between). I'm not an out of shape person by any means (I'm 6 ft, 150lbs...really light weight, but no fat)...is what I'm doing beneficial? Do I need to be doing longer sprints? Longer rows? Abandon sprints altogether? Any input is good. Thanks all.<br /><br />BTW, I'm new to the boards. They seem great though

If you are looking for the CV benefits, longer rows would certainly be a bit more beneficial, however what you are doing (as long as you are keeping good form and avoiding things that can lead to injury) will cause adaptations to your strength levels.<br /><br />What do you mean by "Old C2 Rower"? <br /><br />Being a pitcher, you need to generate a good amount of power with your legs and have a good connection all through your body to launch the ball, so a full body exercise like Erging/Rowing should serve you well.

Thanks all,<br /><br /><a href='http://www.fitnessplus.com/Equipment/Ro ... wer1_B.gif' target='_blank'>This</a> is the old concept 2 rower that I have (so far as I can tell). We've had it for about 10 years, and I've only used it on and off. I'm hoping to get up to about 20 minutes worth of sprinting eventually (so 10-11 500m sprints), that way I'll get a better CV out of it. Again, thanks for the help.
