If it's a good predictor of potential though, it does suggest that strength is more important than we are sometimes told.
I think it is more about explosive strength. I dare to say I am quite strong, I can deadlift a 150kg no problems, on the rower, pulling the handle at maximum DF it doens't feel nearly as heavy. But to move the handle quickly is a whole different story. so the question is: how fast can you move a relatively light resistance?
At high drag the pull is not that fast, guys with a fast lowpull often have strong deadliftnumbers, think 300kg ish.

Serious weights, although nowadays the records are getting steep. Some woman even are getting above 250kg.

Sprinters on the erg often focus very much on weights, you simply never can get to strong, just like for 2k and above you never can get to fit.

I sometimes do the wingate-peak-power-test. It suggests a direct link between a 30 sec max and your 2k posibilities.

Thanks a lot guys, yeah I am satisfied with how the aerobic base is coming along :D The HM yesterday was nothing I had prepared for, on Sunday I did a 60R20, and on Monday I did 70 minutes of mountain running, so my legs were already quite fatigued.

Going off the start, I figured I would go for a sub 1:19, but you know the drill, as the session went along, the target was increased to sub 1:18. Needless to say, towards the end things were getting quite interesting, as there was not much left in the tank, which my HR confirms(my max is 189):

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
1:17:43.2 21,097m 1:50.5 259 1192 27 161
7:34.7 2,000m 1:53.6 238 1120 26 141
7:29.2 4,000m 1:52.3 247 1150 26 146
7:27.1 6,000m 1:51.7 251 1162 26 150
7:26.5 8,000m 1:51.6 252 1166 26 155
7:23.6 10,000m 1:50.9 257 1183 27 157
7:22.5 12,000m 1:50.6 259 1189 25 161
7:19.0 14,000m 1:49.7 265 1211 27 166
7:17.4 16,000m 1:49.3 268 1221 27 169
7:17.0 18,000m 1:49.2 268 1223 27 173
7:15.8 20,000m 1:48.9 271 1231 27 176
3:50.4 21,097m 1:45.0 302 1340 28 184

This was no easy pace, but on a fresh day I think there should be still another minute or so to go.

Happy to have negative split the whole session though!

Haha, don't let it get to you guys, we all come from different places, so comparisons seldom gives the whole picture. Even though I am still only 7 months into my erging "career", I have been doing aerobic training for the last 15 years, and always been active in different sports(table tennis mostly, mountain running, soccer, judo, volleyball, track & field etc.).

And there are -a lot- of people putting my times on the erg to shame :D Take Eric Murrays HM WR for instance, his average splits are only significantly slower than my 2k splits

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Post by JonCass » May 20th, 2020, 8:17 am

Hit new PB on 2k this lunchtime and first time ever sub-7 at 6:58.8, I have been using the time in quarantine to follow PP 5k plan.

Splits :
1:22.3 400m 1:42.8 321 1406 30 154
1:23.3 800m 1:44.1 310 1366 30 159
1:24.4 1,200m 1:45.5 298 1325 30 167
1:24.9 1,600m 1:46.1 293 1307 30 165
1:23.9 2,000m 1:44.8 303 1344 30 165

6:58.8 2,000m 1:44.7 305 1349 30 162

Felt great for the first 1k and things were all hunky dory, then 3rd quarter (around 4 mins 30) the wheels started to shake and I dropped a couple of splits over 1:50 and I started to wonder if Id make it, got back track at the last quarter when I saw the 7mins was insight.
