At least you got a PB and know you can do more. I on the other hand "chickened out" of testing my 2K. Short stuff doesn't feel too good right now with emphasis on longer rows and I have felt sluggish. Anyway, will a go at some shorter rows in a month or so as I work on some shorter intervals along with the added SS.MartinSH4321 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2020, 5:47 am2k PB - 6:43.6 (-0.3'')
This was a really sh*tty effort, during WU my legs felt very tired, after about 700m I paced down (plan was >330W for the first 1500m) as my legs still felt so tired. At around 600m left I recognized that it's not as bad as I thought and paced up, around 200m to go I only wanted to finish a bit faster than old PB and it worked which was the only good thing about this effort
It looks like my training volume was on the egde in the last couple of weeks, time for an easy week and then a 6-week-sharpening for a proper 2k effort, target 6:35.

This looks great!!! I have no plans to go after this - I still have blisters and sore sitz bones from the FM. While its "just" 8 k more than the FM I just know that last 8K has to be miserable.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑May 11th, 2020, 7:55 am
You know when you're suited to long distances when you have a 50k PB to try and beat, and I think this is just over seven minutes faster than my PB.
I almost HDed at 43k, not least because it was my second fastest FM, but after a quick stretch, walk around, drink and a seat pad, I felt like a had a new lease of life. I even managed a sprint for the last 200m and got it down to 1:39 @ r32.

Hahaha, I'm really lucky as it didn't really register with me until about 40k and even then it wasn't unbearable. The padding felt great though.winniewinser wrote: ↑May 11th, 2020, 11:26 amMy backside is wincing at the thought of a Half Marathon let alone this crazyness ....45mins is generally the moment it says enough is enough I'm off to sleep and then the pain start
Thanks mate. You're right, 'just' 8k more doesn't sound too bad but it might as well be 20k when you're at this stage. Energy levels are low and emotional ideas are coming at you from all over the place e.g. you've done an FM, so stop now. You might injure yourself if you carry on etc etc

You already have a strong 2k PB, so it's extra hard to do a good TT after a FM and no preparation, I understand your decision. With some sharpening your improved aerobic fitness should help you to get a new PB.KeithT wrote: ↑May 11th, 2020, 11:48 amAt least you got a PB and know you can do more. First I was really a bit frustrated after this TT, even if it's a PB, but now I think it's a good sign that I'll crush my PB with good preparation, the short intervals are so essential and a bit lower volume will help too.

Thanks Mitchel. Tbh, it wasn't too bad in the last 8k, it was more of the usual brain fog and emotions running wild, which admittedly is bad enough, but after I had the rest it sorted my head out a bit.mitchel674 wrote: ↑May 11th, 2020, 1:01 pmWow! Hahaha, surprisingly I did as I was picking up the pace with 3k to go. I don't think I was physically maxed out, but mentally I was feeling the strain a bit, but that's normal.ArmchairPhil wrote: ↑May 11th, 2020, 1:05 pmWow, that's insane Stu Congratulations .

Thanks Mike, when you break through the fear of what it will be like, you adapt quite quickly to it and it's not at all what I would call pleasant, but it's not unbearable either.
Thanks David, I'm suffering now!

Good Day,
First time is always a PB.
100k at 2:14.8/500 or 7 hours 29 mins 15 secs.
I am extremely proud of this and the people that supported me. It is worth it, it is not easy. It is not 10x10,000 and drinking water destroys your average. With breaks, I had to keep about a 2:12 is pace most of the time.
If you have questions, let me know, otherwise I won’t bore you - my wife has already died from boredom talking about this.
Have a great day
David

David, as others have said, this is an amazing feat. Out of interest, did you put the hammer down at the end to get under 7h30, or is that just not possible with that much accumulated fatigue?

Sometime later....
...the medals have been awarded, the crowds have departed, the cleaners have been and gone, and the clunk-clunk-clunk as various banks of lights were switched off echoed round some time ago, but one poor bugger is still inching his way up and down the rail, stopping every now and then and looking decidedly worse for wear. The only other sound is the occasional tapping of the caretaker's foot as he leans on his mop looking at his watch and a scraping noise as he edges his metal bucket closer to the lone erger who is looking decidedly green...
Ok the scene is set!
50k done in 3:49:17.3
A rash decision as it turns out. I had hastily sketched out a plan this morning to have a go at 50k during the challenge window having previously given up on the idea of a FM due to lack of training. I know.. I know... I thought 3h45 might be doable. First 15k went OK, but then felt a bit rough and had to make a toilet stop which cost me two mins but was still ahead of schedule. 35k was still going OK and on target for 3h44 and then the wheels fell off big time and the last 10k was a horror show losing over 4 mins. At the end it was "bucket gaston" time. I should have called it a day at 35k but carried on out of stupidity and stubbornness and rowed myself into the ground to finish, various body parts rebelling and generally feeling like ****. Four hours later only just felt well enough to return to the scene of the crime and plug in my USB to copy off the row and upload to the logbook.
This one could go straight into 'Cautionary Tales for Children by Hilaire Belloc'. 50k is not to be taken lightly!!!! Still its done, pain fades and can chalked up as PB of sorts. At least it gives me something to aim at sometime way way in the distant future (3 hours ago the erg was going on eBay!!! )
