Hooyah...and it's a FIRST EVER half century for me! Well, first ever on a bike erg for the distance. Wasn't speedy, but was consistent with the pace I've been averaging with the bike. So glad to be able to get the Global Challenge done in some fashion! Whoop, whoop !!

Nice work! That’s a long haul.

Leading the big board in meters too, good for you!

Well done, an awesome effort, and congratulations to all who are achieving personal goals...Less than a month to winter and we are enjoying 29 degree days in the Harbour City - Can't complain about that. Cheers, Baz B)

Thanks for the congrats ... the half century started as a brain whisper. It is always surprising to me that I can't walk fast or far right now, but I can bike. The first few revolutions are painful, but then it's like the hill climb - you find a pace you can do and you ride that bike up the virtual hill. Kept a close eye on heart rate, and wouldn't let myself start out too fast. We'll see what level of ouch happens later. I do know that I am 7 percent slower this year than last year when the knee issues started to kick in hard.

I didn't set out to get to the top of the leaderboard - but I had never been there. I knew the only chance I had to be at the top of the board would be at the start of the season - especially since I couldn't do the sprints. I've added meters so I could do the half century, but I don't expect to keep adding them just to stay ahead. Well, except for staying ahead of Minnie. Hahaha! I'm putting in more meters now because I have a knee replacement date of June 8th; this was just decided this week.

I'd like to get a couple million meters this erg season....using bike and indoor rower. But there will be a four to six week "time out" in there. Go ahead and pass me! I'll do my best to catch up later on!

Won't say never to the 2K...but it may be unlikely.

6:44.7. That'll have to do.
Personal Best? Very nice effort Zach, Congrats on a Great time.
It was! Previous personal best was a 6:52 set in 2018. I hadn't done a 2k since then - I absolutely hate them. 5k's and 10k's are my jam.
That is a REALLY impressive improvement, Zach. Initialy I was a little confused by your description, not sure if you were satisfied or not, so not sure what to say. I am amazed. I would understand if you never did another one!

I'm about to have another go. Putting it out there because the support I get from being part of this team is immense, and the thought of having to come back and say I bailed may well be enough to keep me going when the going gets tough.

To be completely honest, I wasn't super satisfied with it at the moment. A day later, I'm generally pleased with it.

2k's for some reason make me want to bail more than any other distance. Probably because the intensity of the row means the pain comes on so quickly compared to a longer distance piece.

I hope your new 2k attempt goes well! It's been a few days since your last attempt, that recovery time will serve you well. It's awesome watching people go for another attempt - it's inspiring to see, knowing that each row costs us something.

You're all great!

Well, you all did it and got me across the line in 6:59.4  ! Well done!

Joking aside, without the support and motivation that comes from being part of this team, I would not have been able to achieve what has been a goal for the last twenty years, so thank you.

Incredible job! I know you had your eye on it, and you did it only a few days after your last 2k attempt! So, you'll be going again just before the final deadline is reached, right? :D

"... except for staying ahead of Minnie" ... throw down that gauntlet, then disappear off into rehab?! Snort and sputter. I'll just have to bank a mountain of meters, against when you're back in action, with a blazing hot and tireless bionic knee.

Nice job on that half century. Very impressive. How many pairs of padded biking shorts were you wearing?

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.08.2020

Post by Kona2 » May 9th, 2020, 10:54 am

Root, root, root for the Lunies! This time of year just brings us all out in full voice! Adapting to life without baseball (at the moment), we have found another outlet for our need to cheer! So many on our team cheer on their teammates' efforts ! Great song selections to row by have been offered up!

Image

Today's comic reminded me of a certain memorable rooting session during a four minute time trial: enthusiasm, tempo, volume and emphasis can't be adequately represented here!

Looking good! Keep it up!
One minute in! You're rocking it! Keep going!
You are killing it! Keep going!

And then at the start of the "bell lap":

You're in the home stretch! Keep going! You've got this!

You've got it! Keep going! Weigh it in!
GO GO GO!! You've got this! Push it, push it, push it!
GO GO GO !!!
