Many thanks to you, too, Dan, for supporting the team and adding to the fun!
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Tried for a new PR tonight and by 600 meters I could barely hold the pace - so I bailed. I'll try again tomorrow and if that pace is still out of reach, I'll slow up. Bah.

Yes!!!normadelaney wrote: ↑May 6th, 2020, 4:32 pmMany thanks to you, too, Dan, for supporting the team and adding to the fun!
Dan "shamed" me into trying a 2k TT today to help fill EAGLE . I was planning to rest after yesterday I rowed to figure out my optimal drag factor, following some Dark Horse Rowing youTube videos. I learned that my back and shoulders did not like going up to damper 9-10 (DF on my machine 145)... so I decided that I will stay at 7 (DF 125) for the 2k TT.
I did the rowing warm-up recommended in the doc shared by Baz. Thanks to Baz for the info and to Andrew for the feedback!
I had to extrapolate the targets as the list ended before my target pace (2:10) .
I followed the Dark Horse 2k strategy recommended for "novice" rowers with power strokes at every 500m. As I did not do a 2k TT in 12 years, I figured it would be good for me... As they noted, this helped breaking up the 2k in more "manageable" pieces. I followed the plan and ended with a pace of 2:10.1. I will try at least once more, to see if I can break Paul's law... .
As many others have said, the team spirit, the support and the series helped me do more than I ever planned... Thanks!

Seconded! Thanks Dan and K2, you make all this pain possible!normadelaney wrote: ↑May 6th, 2020, 4:32 pmMany thanks to you, too, Dan, for supporting the team and adding to the fun!
And for those looking for our boats, it many not be less clicks but it is exciting to filter the boat list down to the age category and see our boats without having to scroll down!
MERCURY(currently 7th of 80) - https://log.concept2.com/challenges/lea ... masters=40
APOLLO (currently 8th of 45) - https://log.concept2.com/challenges/lea ... masters=50
DISCOVERY (currently 33rd on same page, just through having completed the first round), then the boat aged slightly for subsequent rounds: (currently 5th out of 11) - https://log.concept2.com/challenges/lea ... masters=60
EAGLE (currently 12th out of 18) https://log.concept2.com/challenges/lea ... masters=40
And an opportunity for a first place if we have 8 more mature members who can verify a 2000m, https://log.concept2.com/challenges/lea ... masters=70 is empty!

I'm sure you'll do it, Andrea! Maybe take a (relative) rest day or two before another serious attempt, though, a hard 2k takes a lot more out of you than you realise at the time.
Rest up, psych up and give it everything you have to spare!

No speed super powers necessary ... "more mature" also optional.
The glory of a podium finish is ours for the taking!

Thanks Andrea for sharing the Dark Horse warm up strategy, I tried this a few days ago and although I also bailed on my attempt as Zack did, I did take a rest day and tried again yesterday with a little variance on the warm up, doing a 6 min. 19spm very slow pace, then 2 min rest and 500m X3 each getting faster with the last being around race pace. I discovered I just have to start slower and the 1st 800 meters was a pace I could easily hold, I then gave it my all for the last 1200 and felt great with a strong finish. The 2 k really is a wonderful physical test when you push for your best time, you learn a lot about yourself and develop your own strategy, and as David was only 10 sec. off his personal best I was about 7 seconds off mine. I'm happy with that for now and will have a couple days rest rest then get a 1/2 marathon in on Saturday for the Marathon challenge. Thanks everyone for all your insights on the spring series challenge it's been interesting hearing all your stories. Best to Zack on your pb attempt.

A day of rest helps more than you think it might. Thanks to everyone for the commentary, the sharing of good suggestions and vetting of same. Good luck to all who are giving the 2K a go...if it's not a personal best, it could be a season's best, and for some...a FIRST EVER!

Has anyone tried the Pete Beginner's Plan? I was thinking of giving it a go but it starts with a 5k!!!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
(Insert appropriate curse words) I read that Eagle is 12 out of 18 and came to the conclusion that I'm going to have to rerow the 2k and improve on my previous time. Sometimes I hate this competitive side of me!Shabana wrote: ↑May 7th, 2020, 12:14 amSeconded!
