Just did my 2k. 6:48.7.
Reasonably happy. Crushed my old PR of 6:57 but there was still more in the tank. Somehow I keep having trouble with 3rd quarter of my race. Doesn't matter if it's a 2k or a 10k. After the halfway point I always feel like I have to drop the pace because I feel I'm blowing up. And then still I have something left in the tank at the end.

My plan was:
1st 500m: 1:41.0
2nd 500m: 1:43.0
3rd 500m: 1:43.0 (at this point I would be at an average split of 1:42.0)
4th 500m: Whatever I had left

What I did was:
1st 500m: 1:40.8
2nd 500m: 1:43.1 (I was perfectly on pace here)
3rd 500m: 1:43.8 (lost too much here so I was now at an avg split of 1:42.6)
4th 500m: 1:41.0

Anyway, race details are here https://log.concept2.com/profile/1181577/log/44166363

Summary: lessons learned and crushed my PR. Time for celebration now!
PB: 500m 1:24.8 - 1k 3:13 - 2k 6:48 - 5k 18:17 - 6k 21:57 - 30m 8064m - 10k 38:09 60m 15771 HM 1:20:45

that is huge improvement Ronald and very well done indeed.
Certainly more to come - the fastest 2ks are done usually at sr32+ so that is going to help you as well - rate up a bit too.

I did a cautious (aka slow) 2k - 7:20.5 tonite to make sure I had one done. Gives me a little confidence to improve later in the week but I am nowhere near even 7:10 I suspect

Lizh just came out of a zoom training session warmed up and did the 1' to float another boat - 251m @1:59.5

and we are up to 2nd!!

Great 2k Ronald. Me and my brother have entered the Welsh Indoors in November, trusting this will be on with the madness subsided. Should be able to indoor row with social distancing right???

Anyone else fancy it, that's half a team entry already...

I'm saying nothing about 2k times at the moment as I'm so far off at the moment, just looking for gradual improvement, not ready for an all or nothing effort

THe Welsh indoors

https://www.wirc.wales/

They have the 2k, 500m and 100m as well as a 4 person team relay event, the ones I have seen are quite mad, normally last event of the day.

Great effort Ronald, and the leading team time so far! Your pacing clearly worked for you, but maybe it's the faster start that's leading to the flat feeling in the 3rd quarter. The motivation of being close to the finish might be helping with emptying the tanks. And a PB is always something to celebrate because they don't come around that often.

I'm planning to do mine on Saturday. I don't feel like trying to cram it in after a work day, but had planned on using the weekend for the BikeErg 100km, so going to have to shuffle some things around, and possibly do it on the Sunday.

Good work on the CTC as well everyone. We've slipped to 3rd at the moment, but that's still a good place to be even if it might not last until the end of the month.

Took one 'for the team' with a faster than normal 2k as warmup for todays weights.

Splits
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
6:57.5 2,000m 1:44.3 308 1359 26
1:46.8 500m 1:46.8 287 1288 24
1:44.9 1,000m 1:44.9 303 1343 24
1:44.2 1,500m 1:44.2 309 1364 24
1:41.6 2,000m 1:41.6 334 1448 30

Is this stroke rate a bit on the low side? Where do you normally stay?
First time I go sub-7! :D
100M - 15.4 1 Min - 379 500M - 1:23.0 1k - 3:18.6 4:00 - X 2k 6:57.5 5k 22.08

Welcome to the sub7 club! That's a big milestone!

My PR up to last week was 6:57 also. I did that at rate 25 avg so even lower then you. Although impressive, it is not very efficient. I think that if you try rating at 28 try to start of with a 1:43-1:44 and keep it there, you can come close to 6:50.

The faster guys ussually rate higher, that's how simple it is. If you have more strength than endurance you rate a bit lower then the other way around. But simply look the pro's, they are strong and fit and they rate at 36-38 for a 2k. That's what I do on a 500m. But hey, the pull my 500m pace for 2k so the math adds up :D

I was planning my week toward a 2k attempt today (sprintwork on monday, SS on tuesday), but then this evening I was feeling weak and tired
Because I couldn't rule out that the prospect of a 2k was what ailing me I decided to have a sitdown on the erg and just put in a careful marker.
Ended up pulling 6:57.0, having decided to handle down twice during the piece and then deciding to pick up the next stroke after a tiny pause.
Average strokerate worked out to about 29, which is a small step in the right direction.

Cant join the new PB party yet, but am really happy to have gone sub-7 on such a shit attempt anyway.
Hope I can give it another go feeling a bit stronger..

Only 3 seconds above your PB is a strong score for "a shitty effort". Well done and maybe have another go saterday or sunday

Nice Ivan

BTW if you live in Oz, NZ UK Canada then your 1 minute can be used for international challenge as well

https://rowingaustralia.com.au/2020/05/ ... challenge/

….and another thing - Arno Calonius and his son Kim have put in a minute for the CTC - long time Flyers been in "retirement" for years. Welcome back if you are lurking Arno - now all we need is the fabulous Tara Calonius to have a go. She was regularly amongst the fastest women entries back in the day. Maybe there is a good side to Covid19!!
