Looking at your 5k and 30', with a bit more practise I think you're already capable of doing close to 17k, so that's a good goal for this season.Tandstad wrote: ↑May 6th, 2020, 3:39 amThanks a lot Martin, yeah unless anything changes drastically, I want to be closing in on 17k towards the end of this season. With fresh feet I could optimally go into the 167xx now(also the pace calculator indicates this), so need to improve by about 300 meters, which should be possible. Will you do any work on your 60' the coming season?MartinSH4321 wrote: ↑May 5th, 2020, 3:37 pmWell done Jo Andre, a very strong result! My season goal is 16.200m, right now I think I can do around 15.900, not far away from a big milestone. I hope to give it a try soon, but it's also a matter of temperature, no fun in summer

Yeah that might be, I am also afraid to be getting to the halfway point, having left to much juice in the 1st half, so that I am tempted to HD on the 2nd half. If I dared to try starting harder some time, that might cause me to HD, or it might cause me to get a better scoreMartinSH4321 wrote: ↑May 6th, 2020, 4:15 amLooking at your 5k and 30', with a bit more practise I think you're already capable of doing close to 17k, so that's a good goal for this season.Tandstad wrote: ↑May 6th, 2020, 3:39 amThanks a lot Martin, yeah unless anything changes drastically, I want to be closing in on 17k towards the end of this season. Right on the money on the 2k at 6:39.9
https://log.concept2.com/profile/973347/log/44200443
Probably wasn't the best day to do it, but when is it ever? My back was aching from too much sitting with the laptop on the couch and I was tired from watching tv shows too late last night. But I did not want to waste another training day in hopes of finding better form tomorrow, and I was also getting pretty jittery about the 2k, so I figured I'd better get it over with.
All in all, the execution went as planned:
Up to speed with just a couple of fast strokes, hold 1:41 with long strokes and consistent rating at 30 to about halfway, where I'd tighten the screw to about 1:40 until 1250m or so, then take it up another notch to 1:39 until a final rate-up sprint with about a minute to go depending on the need in order to make the sub-6:40 mark.
This type of slight neg splitting seems to work for me as I was feeling pretty comfortable and confident throughout; even so, I don't think I left more than a second or two on the table. I'm afraid I am already pretty close to my limit, but if I ever wanted to improve this PB, I'd try to rate up a little and work on my breathing rhythm to get the air flowing in. Lowering the foot rest as suggested by Jamesg in another thread definitely helped in that respect as an instant fix.
