Congratulations, Gary, on completing the Challenge with a fine half marathon!
I got thru it in an hour and 25 minutes (and a lot of change), I had no intent on going fast(for me). I was watching Better Call Saul and for some reason I got the itch to go. It’s was my best since 2016, I was happy with the results .

Wow Zach! You have a lot of guts (not literally, quarantine cookies notwithstanding) to have another go at the 4 mins, and what a result! Also to share it with us all .TallErgs wrote: ↑May 1st, 2020, 8:15 pm1229 meters at a 1:37.6 average. Carol recorded the attempt and cheered me on. You were inspirational, but I could not face that stress again, so I went for the easier option of a marathon (may sound tongue in cheek, but I'm not, I am still feeling the after effects of my last [and only] attempt at 4 mins). Realised that my cushion has lost most of its resilience, going slowly just made the pain last a little longer. Feeling jealous of the thick looking pad you were using!

A stupendous effort! It will set you up well for the nonathlon if you choose to compete. Keeping going at that pace towards the end takes a great deal of determination, I've had 1:25 in my sights a few times but have not been able to ignore the little voices that chime in with 20 minutes to go, suggesting that I've put in a good effort, no need to face any more pain! Maybe I should give Better Call Saul another go...

I uh, I dont know what I was expecting when I clicked that link. Congrats on the marathon! That is an awesome achievement. Re: All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.01.2020
I'm going for 2MM this season. Managed 1MM only having started in September. Every day in my journal/planner, I divide the number of meters I have left by the number of days left in the year to try to stay on target. After two days, happy to say I'm still on track.Kona2 wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2020, 11:02 amSo. Have you thrown down the galactic gauntlet and promised YOURSELF that you're going to reach a certain goal this year? Not asking you to share them...just asking if you have them. Meter millionaire? Completing all of the ranking distances for your erg? Half marathon. Ok, maybe you've only brain whispered these goals to yourself....but a whisper is as good as a shout in this instance. Once whispered, you're on the hook for completion....hahaha!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Sorry I waited to the last minute to put up a 4 minute time. I was socially distancing myself at my beach cabin to do a lot of much needed maintenance, so there was no rower available and running on the beach made me much more sore than I expected. The 4 minute is a beasty little challenge, though not nearly as fear inducing as next week. I barely hit my goal, but it feels like a strong result. Nice work everyone. I hope we are all ready for the mighty 2k.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I want to be happy with anything under 7 minutes (30 days ago that was my extreme 1 year rowing goal). I'd never really done any fast workouts before this whole challenge and I've never done a "real" 2k. But with that being said, I'd love to get 6:50.TallErgs wrote: ↑May 3rd, 2020, 3:22 pmGlad to see you were able to post a time, very nicely done! These challenges have really motivated me to want to get faster, so after this week I think I am going to start a structured plan.
How about you?
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
My last 2k was in the spring of 2018, and I pulled a 6:52. 2019 wasn't a great/consistent year for me, so I'm hoping to just PR in some fashion. I've been pacing all of my challenge rows before I do a real attempt at them - but not this time. I'm tired after a month of max-effort rows, and I need more recovery days before my first attempt.SweatSlide wrote: ↑May 3rd, 2020, 4:05 pmI want to be happy with anything under 7 minutes (30 days ago that was my extreme 1 year rowing goal). That's a roundabout way of saying I'll be happy with anything, because I know it'll be the best I can do at this point in time!

Re: All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.01.2020
Yes Kona2, I do have a goal for next year. It's to get a 1 million meter season and to surpass the 5 million meter mark for total meters rowed. I was about 55-60 meters short of 1 million for this year, but it was still my best year since I started rowing back in 2012. That's what I'm hoping for anyway. Once warm weather hits I like to be outside as much as possible, but I think it can be done.Kona2 wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2020, 11:02 am

Thanks you guys for the congratulations on the 1/2 marathon row on May 1. It was our 39th wedding anniversary (we were both in the Air Force, stationed in Japan when we met at the young age of 19) and the first day of the new rowing season, so I thought I'd celebrate with a big one. We're trying to plan where to go for our 40th next year, and with this virus likely to return with a vengeance we are wondering if it's even going to be possible. For our 30th we had planned to go to Egypt and the surrounding areas, but that's the year the uprising occurred and travel there was banned. Any ideas would be appreciated.
So, back to the rowing topic: What an awesome video. It was fun to watch and TallErgs is definitely tall, I have much more room at the back of my rower when at full extension than he does.
I re-rowed the 4 min this morning with my damper setting at 10 like others suggested, and was 2 seconds slower than my last time, so I tried it again and was able to beat my previous pb time. Anyone needing some fast music for a 5 minute row should check out Swedish House Mafia's "Greyhound". Better yet, watch the video while you row. It's bound to make you go faster just by listening to the beat. The louder the better. I might just put it on a loop for the 2k Here's the link: https://youtu.be/Oe2KIVAHF-4?t=15
Alright, good luck with the 2,000m distance. This has been fun.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, used up, totally worn out, & loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
RE: Round Four
The window for input has closed for round 4, but we have several who just squeaked in under the wire. I should be able to see their results tomorrow, but I cannot at the moment. This round surely required a lot of extra effort behind the scenes as several of you were cajoling others to get that FOUR minutes of torture completed. Thanks to all who pushed, nagged, implored, etc., all four boats should be in the virtual waters.
Round 5 will be enough to make everyone say "enough with the sprints." This has indeed been a fun one for everybody. The amount of "traffic" on our forum pages has been awesome. I knew you all had things to say !

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Congratulations to all who did marathons and half marathons in addition to the 4min TT!!!
Special congratulations to Jodi who did her half marathon on her Anniversary day!
My 3rd 4min TT yesterday was with a 125 drag factor (top of 7 damper setting on my machine). I probably had a few more meters in me, as I was able to nicely sprint 2:03 in the last 30 secs, but after the early die off on my second one, I was afraid to go all out earlier...
Today my shoulders asked for some rest (they do not like much the higher DF) and I have to keep them OK for the 2k...
For those who did not see this before, some info in prep for the 2k: https://darkhorserowing.com/how-to-mast ... on-the-erg.
Row wisely and stay healthy!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Never did get another shot like I planned at the 4min this weekend, or any rowing for that matter. But I did get 4 hours of yardwork done, 2 nightstands and a multimedia storage shelf assembled, bedroom and bathroom disassembled then reassembled. I'm sore as heck and didn't even get the benefit of any meters! I'm thinking today and tomorrow will be lunchtime 5ks, with another evening 5k tonight, then my first shot at the 2k tomorrow night. I should be able to beat 8:00, and my stretch goal is 7:45
Started rowing 4/22/19.
PBs: 1min - 314m, 500m - 1:40.0, 1,000m - 3:45.3, 4min - 1,082m, 2,000m - 7:41.0, 5.000m - 21:18.2, 6,000m - 25:41.6, 30min - 7,010m, 10k - 44:40.5, 60min - 13,112m

Round 5...the KNOCKOUT round!!!
Starting today, you've got a chance to give the gold standard metric, the 2K, a go. Some of you will be trying for a sub-7 minute 2K (in fact, there's a whole team where entry is dependent upon your ability to do this). Betting on some world records from the Olympic teams participating in the Challenge...and some personal records among our teammates. Give yourselves a good couple days of rest, and then do your Challenge 2K. You feel the need for speed!
