Well, I have always said if it's your first time its a PB. Did my first ever FM today and I am pretty stoked. I have also said I have never done a workout with a pace over 2:00 so secretly I had this as a goal. First goal was to finish but wanted to really test myself and......

FM at 2:47:46.6.....a 1:59.2 pace!!!!

It was the best test of my physical and mental capacities I have had including all my CF stuff. Was so different than a shorter test. I wanted to HD a few times but followed my plan and had a cushion and knew I just needed to hang on. Towards the end I resisted the temptation to go faster as I was so set on making sure
I didn't freeze up until last 100m where I pulled n the 1:40s. Could write paragraphs about it but still trying to recover. Lots of blisters and behind in pain but worth it.

Maybe I'm not a sprinter

Come get it Stu!
Massive congrats Keith, very impressive pace for such huge distance 😆🎉👌

Been idly checking waiting for your post today :)
Based on everything you had posted, my money was on 2:48:30 ish, but you blitzed that.
That is an absolutely stonking time Keith.
Please do post some more about it - I am sure we' would all like to read it.
Congratulations!
Thanks Dino. It was an experience for sure. Will post some more maybe Monday including my strategy. Which I will share was a positive split plan.

Thought I might aswell kick of the season with a TT and a crack at 1km. Not a distance I've raced much and it's fair to say I didn't go into it feeling that great (tired and fed up of home working) but it was low hanging fruit so.... 🚨 boom!! 🚨 B)

<>

Did another video analysis earlier and noted my technique still sucks ass so must try harder to sort out initiating with the legs rather than swinging the body back. Bad habits 😕
Great work Alex.

If your technique is really as bad as you say it is,it'll be interesting to see if there is a step change in your splits as you modify it. Having a good hip extension is no bad thing though - it helps avoid injury to the lower back and hamstrings. Perhaps that's where your strength lies. As long as you're not wrenching with spinal flexion, it may not be too much of a problem.

I was wondering earlier on today whether to really maximise my FM or keep something back for the 2k next week, now my decision has been made for me.

Soak up the praise as you deserve it all.
Thanks Stu, it's really all your fault I ever tried this. :) I actually went thru the 30K close to what I did 3 weeks ago, then it was about hanging on and being conservative. Even with my cushion I really had to fight to not HD. Got hit with a couple waves of massive fatigue but when I got thru them I was OK. I even put the handle on my lap once for a second but then took a few super relaxed strokes and got on with it. Knew I was going to finish and hit my goal at 5K to go but was scared to do anything dumb and remained steady and just started to think about it almost being over.
The last 10k is where the real effort is needed, not least as your thoughts are so emotionally driven

Thx Max.

I suspect I am being over critical if myself which is a trait of mine. When you see anything in slow motion it looks worse....but I do think it's something to work on. I tried looping a resistance band around my body and the erg to hold myself back and encourage the leg drive. I'm also revisiting some videos from Dark Horse.

I do need to be careful that I don't destroy what works for me in the main. Hopefully more gains to come 😁

It is difficult to really appreciate it until you do it, and you will still struggle with it, at least a bit, even when you know what to expect. Every feeling and emotion is heightened and you start going into self defence mood, and wondering if you're doing damage to yourself.

The ups and downs are all part of the challenge but, like anything, the more you do the easier it gets.
