What time (GMT) does the new season start tomorrow?
It is one of those wacky US time zones.

It's midnight Eastern Day Time (because C2 are based in Vermont).
That's 05:00 BST, 04:00 GMT
Thankyou Sir.

Happy with my time though, under the 1:40 split I was aiming for and it gives me a good benchmark for next weeks 2k. Probably this pace +3 or +4.
Ronald, if I could pull a 1:43.5 2k 3 years ago with a 1:30.0 500 and a 1:39 1k, then you should certainly be capable of at least a 1:42 split for 2k with the amount of power and endurance you have over me (judging by all the spring 8's distances so far).
That being said I know the feeling.. I find it much easier to pull 8 1:42-1:43 ish 500's in a row than 4 1:45 1000's... and the 2k is worse still.
The mental aspect comes into play much stronger since you have to endure the pain/discomfort much longer.. The brain makes a convincing argument about how your heart is about to explode and that you should take it easier.. the trick is to commit to the split you know you should be able to hold.

1236m (1:37 pace) for the 4' today, not really happy with it but an OK effort, maybe I'll give it a second try this weekend.
Martin I am sure you have a faster one in you - my best a few years ago was 1224 @1:38.0 at a time when I was at 1:35/6 for the 1k (PB 3:10.x) - go for it
Yeah, 1.250m (1:36) are realistic I think, but there were a lot of TTs for me the last weeks, I propably should save some strength (also mentally) for the coming 2k, we'll see :)

Strong pace Martin! you are 3 splits faster then I am and still not happy? I'll just leave this one as is and focus on the 2k next week.

Thanks! After minute 3 I realized that I was too slow in the middle, and even with the faster finish I didn't completely empty the tank, so I'm sure I can be faster, but you're propably right, I should focus on the coming 2k :)

Let's see where our boat is at the end of the week. We ussualy score around 35th to 45th place. If are really low in the rankings we'll both have another go and see where it ends up. If not, let's focus on the 2k next week.

I just put in 1176 meters for the 4' challenge..
God am I bad at these longish sprint distances.. I manage to hit 80th or higher percentile on most distances but not on 1-2k.
My high rate endurance has always been poor and you cant muscle your way through 3+ minutes as you can with a 500.
This points to a need to acclimate myself to rate 30 (I usually dont exceed 28-29), but I know of no way to do this that wont
unconsciously scare me away from my beloved model C.

1176 scares me!! Funny comment, I think the last time I did a 2k scared me off a bit, there is no hiding with this machine.

Looking at your scores, it is your 2k that is out of sync isnt it, are we all saving ourselves for next week.

What are you aiming for??

I'll be happy with anything between 7.20 and 7.30 at the moment. Somewhere in my brain there is a single cell that tells me there is still a sub 7 in me and once again it it is going to take over my life :D

Theoretically I should be able to come close to my 2k PB, based on the numbers I've been pulling lately. My PB was 79th percentile back then.
I think the aim will be to sink my teeth into a 1:45 split and see where it takes me. It helps to have a 'minimum' split in mind.
In my case if I see 1:46's I start pulling harder no matter what my brain is trying to trick me into (about taking it easy and making up for it later).

Make no mistake, 2k's scare me.. always have, always will. I was already very nervous for 4 minutes. My heartrate was nailed to 180+ from about 20 seconds into the piece climbing up to 186 (about my avg max) for the whole last 2,5 minutes. Haven't done a serious 2k in 2 years , last one was OTW.

I suspect I should potentially be able to do better with the amount of training I'm doing and there certainly is a lot of room for improvement around 2k pace. Managing to keep a higher rate going would be a big help, because at the moment it just knocks the wind out of me quickly when I keep 30+ rates for longer than 500m.

I ussually rate rather low as well. Just took a look at some old data and saw that my current 2k PB of 6:57 was done at 24spm
now, 2 years later, I can't imagine pulling a sub 1:45 pace for 7 minutes at a rating of just 24. Did my 4 min effort yesterday at 29SPM and i'll probably aim for about 28 spm on the 2k next week as well... Funny how conditioning vs strength can change in such a short period.

Ronald the best 2ks are done at >30 sr - that is the fitness test - to do at sr24 is impressive and encouraging that you are able to get much faster when fitter.

I have a gut feeling that, if I am not ill or injured, I will crush my 2k PB next week ;-)

the FF recruitment team has reached out to Prague and we have a new member for the CTC - JardaP. He is an erg buddy of my friend Martin who moved back there after living in Sydney for 20 years (I know what thaa…?) He also added Martin2 in Prague.
I am hoping that we can get them to do a 2k as well next week.

Hi everyone. I am encouraged to join in on this team by FF Skipper Dave M, a compatriot here in Cape Town, where we still remain in rather stringent lockdown. (Just before the inception of which about 5 weeks ago I bought a a rapidly becoming unavailable C2 model D just in time for my pain cave which also sports an Assault air bike and a WATTBIKE, not to mention a pull-up bar!)

Getting intrigued with this game. Lot of VERY strong rowers on this forum including 60+ years!! I am 74 this year (Dec) 81 kg 177 cm and have been cycling competitively in my age group over the last decade. Bike races over for now I guess..

I recall doing a 7:09 2k At age 60 in the local gym without much training but have not rowed much at all except as a strength training gym warmup module sporadically since then, without pushing it. Towards end of last year I did a 2k at gym out of curiosity and the intervening 13 years added 27 seconds to that previous time (7:36) So the bike racing kept me reasonably aerobically fit for rowing.

Being first day of new season I went for a run this am (we were allowed out for the first time since March) then did another 2k this time hitting 7:41 without total stress.

I shall continue to emphasize indoor bike training on WATTBIKE. I can hold 320-330 W on that for 8 minutes but under 240W seems to be my rowing ceiling for that time frame. I believe this is even more than the usual discrepancy.... I have pretty strong upper body (12 pullups weighted with 10 kg) so I guess my technique leaves a lot to be desired tho I have watched some of the Dark Horse videos. (Also I have bikeerg app on iPhone, PainSled on iPad and am totally unable to connect rowing to my Zwift account despite watching some of the hacks on YouTube. Any suggestions welcome.)

I see there is another 2k test this week? Not sure how these virtual competitions work or what boat I would be eligible for if any ?

Anyway, Cheers from another erger in Cape Town.
