A member of an indoor rowing team or club? If so, this is the place for you.

Can this one team row to the moon and back?

How's everybody feeling on their 30 minute row? One-and-done, or a few attempts at it?
Did one on Monday that as previously mentioned that ended up becoming an unplanned PB. Been in active recovery, concentrating on form improvements rather than pace, since then. Will take my own advice and have a rest day today, then an attempt on Friday, leaving me Sunday for a last ditch attempt if it does not pan out.

It is hard working out what pace to go for, I know I could improve a bit but the closest nice round number (8000m) is too far. Maybe I'll give 7,905m a go (that would put me into the 90th percentile for my age group, at 1:53.8). Still quite a stretch. If I miss, perhaps a 1:55 pace at the final attempt.

Of course, my plan will probably turn into fly and die as usual :D

I found this set of pre and post rowing stretches to be quite useful for me:

Thanks for sharing, Andrea. It looks like a really sensible plan to me, I will give it a go; I tend to do too much or not enough normally :)

I tried to get after the earth day challenge. I was going strong and then starting cramping. Still had a decent showing with around 120k on the bike.

To answer your question, I rowed at a higher damper setting after a few days rest from that grueling 500k, and took my hubby’s advice not to push it after a 3 day migraine. Crazy as it sounds I was able to row my fastest 30 minute row this season without really killing myself. This is a timed row that I do often so I was really surprised to do so well. But in true Luna-Tic fashion I have GOT TO see if I can improve on that time! I was just short of 6,000m. I just know I can do better
Nice work! Keep it up but don’t push yourself into migraines. That’ll just ruin your day (or 3 days?).

Thought I'd try a 30 minute row just to get a sense of what pace I should aim for. Surprised myself with 7054 (which puts me at 106/349 of 65-69 Men). I guess there must be more left in the tank, but I'm thinking ...

Whew, 3 day migraine!! Glad to hear that's over, and congrats on your best 30:00 (so far) !!

Thanks for the warm up and cool down info, Andrea !!

You wouldn't be a true Lunie if you didn't shoot for the moon! I shaved my head today to help with heat dissipation when rowing. I've heard that it's free speed! Give it a try and make your stretch goal ;)

(I seriously did shave my head, my lockdown haircut was getting crazy)

Ed Winchester, a Canadian gold medal rower in the senior world championships, passed away today. A quote from a recent interview really resonated with me -
Training is an optimistic act. Implicit in every erg workout and weight session is the idea that you can always get better—that who you are today doesn’t have to be who you are tomorrow.
We as Lunies really represent the spirit of that. Each day we workout during the lockdown, we are racing ourselves for another PR, for a healthier future, or to simply escape from the pressures of life.

For me, rowing is about accepting and even embracing pain. Acknowledging that right now, even though this workout or race is rapidly going from uncomfortable to downright painful, I'm still going to keep the pressure on. Improving in small steps is a game of patience and optimism. Keep it up, Lunies!

More than decent, spectacular! Well done, Brett.

I completely forgot about the Earth Day challenge until I saw it had finished on my log book. Fortuitously I had done two 30 minute sessions, so at least I contributed a reasonable amount.

Nice article on Ed Winchester. Thanks, Zach.
And impressive accomplishments from the team!!

Something I thought others might want to see: I noticed an Instagram post from Hamish Bond (a GARAGEATHLETE):

I was super excited with my 1:49.6 average pace. Hamish Bond is absolutely unreal.

I am still very impressed by your 8.2km+ row, Zach :)

Mercury could take Hamish on for the first 500m, we just need to work on our stamina a little bit

That’s an amazing pace. I can’t fathom he can do that for 30 minutes.

Thanks, Zach and Dan. That's a great quote from Winchester and the shot of his PM5 is amazing.

And, Andrea, thanks for the stretches. I have to confess that I never stretch (before or after). Just think how my performance might improve...
