Whoa, Carol, that is great!! Maybe I need a better race plan too, if not for a repeat 6K, then at least for the following races.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.10.2020
The Galactic Smackdown is nearing its finish! Lucky 7 seems to be our number this year!
Still foolish...but it's tougher each day...
Tomorrow wraps up the time when we can earn entry into the first week of the Spring Series. I like to think that we paved the way for a number of teams (particularly women's teams) to get onboard with this Challenge. Having four boats in the virtual waters is amazing! Where you are (or in some cases, aren't) in a boat is totally dependent on the time that YOU have earned for this entry. The faster the time you put forth, the faster the boat. We're in a time and distance dependent competition in the Concept2 Universe after all. That doesn't mean that your effort doesn't matter if you get moved around. We are all competing on behalf of the team, and the more everyone tries to be in a spot - the better our boats do.
Making a race plan is a good way to get started. The pace calculator will tell you what your mark needs to be to get a certain time....and you can take a look at where you are in a ranked piece, for example, to see how you fit into the scheme of things. The next week the distance is 500 m. That is going to be one fast effort that makes your heart race really fast. Andrew and others have mentioned the importance of stretching before you do any of these efforts. This is especially true in a short sprint. You don't want to pop a gasket. Maybe do a couple of short easy rows to warm up! You have a whole week to try different things. Some teammates are going to be blazingly fast. I am not one of them, but I will still give it a go a few times to see if I can contribute. The more who give it a try, the more boats we can put in the water...and we need 8 rowers for each boat. Let's not leave anyone on the dock!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I'm loving the big distances people are putting in. Incredible job, everybody!
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Thanks for all the shout outs this week!
I'm still on track for the April Fools Challenge. I did 4K on the bike erg as a warm up, 6K on the rower for the team challenge, and then another 4K on the bike (after catching my breath) to be an April Fool.
I'm going to attempt another 6K either today or tomorrow, to see if I can shave more time off.

I'm loving your competitive spirit, Carol. One shot at a timed 6K was all that my knees could handle ... but, I'm cheering you on (albeit, virtually) from the bridge, as you attempt yet another 6K.CarolD wrote: ↑April 11th, 2020, 3:12 pmI'm still on track for the April Fools Challenge. Your 41 seconds (!) improvement got me energized to try to do better and I did shave off some 16 seconds .
I started too fast and almost passed out in the process but remembered that Zach had to stop one race so close to the finish line and kept hanging in there... especially as I saw that there is still a chance to beat my last time... and knew that I will not be able to do another 6k today or tomorrow...
My old "New Grips" helped me avoid sliding too much off the handle but they were a bit uncomfortable as I had not used them for a while.
I found out that I might be doing better not looking too much to the monitor, as my competitiveness exceeds my ability .
No more 6k for me in this one , still have to row 2k today to keep myself in the April Fools Challenge.
Glad that there is no 18k in this challenge, and hope to train more for the 30mins race...
Happy rowing and stay healthy!

Looking at our team results I noticed that your new race plan worked and you shaved off 17s during your repeat 6k!!!
No matter our final standing, we all did our best and that is what matters!
It seems that we were all energized beyond our initial plans... .
Go LUNA-TICS, go LUNA-TICS-EAGLE!
Happy rowing and stay healthy!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.11.2020
Happily, the End of the World Erg Challenge coincides with the end of the April Fool's Streak Challenge because as the requisite streak numbers increase, we're adding more and more meters to the WEC. Since we are well behind the team directly ahead of us in the WEC, and a good million ahead of the one behind us...Lucky 7 seems to be our position in the queue!
Four days to go!!!
What a difference 60 plus more boats in the virtual waters makes!?!
Great work by all the Lunies! We have personal bests, longest distance ever rowed in one session, second and third efforts! Team spirit!
IF we can get four or five more rowers, we can float another boat...we have a few people on the dock waiting to grab a seat in the boat! The GARAGEATHLETE Boat A at 19 minutes and change...hooboy...don't blink! Same for the women's boat of GARAGEATHLETE...pretty amazing to have one team carrying top honors in both men's and women's leaderboards! And, yes, I do want to see the actual times displayed for all of participants...

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I’m starting to think about this 500m. My lifetime best is 1:30.2 in 2012. I have no idea what I’m capable of now. Trying to psych myself up. This sprinting is so different than I’ve the distance I’ve been working on. I did a half marathon on skierg this morning with a 2:13.2 pace with out pushing myself. That was easy. I’m scared of 500 meters on rowerg. Anyone else in this boat?
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I'm anxious, too. There's no real strategy except fly and die. I'm hoping for 1:35 for my 500m. I'm just not strong enough to put out more watts. Thankfully, the test is over in the blink of an eye!BigBrett58 wrote: ↑April 12th, 2020, 2:32 pmI’m starting to think about this 500m. My lifetime best is 1:30.2 in 2012. (Just noticed that my lifetime best was 1:42 from '06. I have no idea what's in the cards this time.)
I think the only good thing about a 500m sprint is that you don't have to calculate your pace.
