Re: Forum Flyers
The blamed virus is making things challenging! I'm doing my best to not be close to other people, but to shop, means walking LOTS more than usual, in order to go around to the other end of an aisle where people AREN'T. Fewer trips mean a heavier cart to push, ugh! I was wiped out after shopping yesterday. But I scored two cartons of lovely grass fed cow's milk, so now I can make yogurt!
On CTC, I have to listen to my body. There's how I was BEFORE the back thing started (Go, go, go!) and how things are AFTER. The PT said I can't do as I was doing and that I have to go slower, be mindful, be careful. Even when I am being careful, the flare-ups keep happening. I get depressed about it, am really sad about CTC, I cried when I saw what the April challenge was, because I knew it was too much. It stresses me to think anyone thinks I'm slacking!
Today I managed 12 minutes/1500m today before I started to feel any pain, and then I stopped. I will do CTC when I feel the challenge is safe. Otherwise, I'll contribute meters as I can. If that's not enough, y'all can tell me.
On the plus side, I lost 4 pounds in March. My doctor thinks losing weight could possibly help with the back issues, it may be he's just trying to keep me hopeful. But hopeful is good and there's not gonna be any quarantine15 around here! Today's weight, 198.4 pounds.

We're supposed to be doing this for our health (as well as the fun of challenges). But sometimes we have to remind ourselves that we are doing the opposite by not backing off enough. We are in it for the long haul, so if after three steps forward we have to take two steps back then that's all right. So long as we don't let inertia keep us from starting up again. Good job with the weight loss. Keep up the good work there! Four pounds in a month is just about the recommended amount, right? One pound a week, not too much not too little.
Onward!

Re: Forum Flyers
Graycyn,
Please don’t beat yourself up over the CTC. We are not an elitist team and the challenge is only meant as a bit of motivation. The important goal was losing 4 lbs so well done for that. Do what you can and if the body allows push a little further.

Re: Forum Flyers
Done a couple of weeks of steady plods to get back into it so today did a 2k just so I’ve got something to aim at and build my pace around. Only a slow 8.13.1 for me but it’s a start.

Re: Forum Flyers
Good work on the weight loss, Cynthia. I hear you on the current shopping challenges - had to go for our first shop in a week on Friday, and spent a lot of time pivoting around people, standing back from the shelves while making my mind up, and also trying to figure out what substitutes to grab because of all the empty shelves (maybe Friday afternoon wasn't the best time to shop). All restaurants and takeaway deliveries have been stopped in South Africa, which used to be more than half our meals in a typical working week I'm embarrassed to say. At least our lockdown is forcing me to flex my cooking muscles again, and getting creative with what is in the house, and expiring first .
Good 2km benchmark, Johnny. Looking forward to progress updates as you get deeper in the training.
I took leave on Friday, and after some dithering back and forth, signed up for a 3-day Zwift challenge, the Haute Route series. I ended up doing 271km on the BikeErg over the 3 days, in a total of 10 hours and 38 minutes. Today's session was the longest and ended up being 109km on PM5 (was 73km on Zwift with 2 big virtual hills to drag my simulated bulk up). So the butt is a little tender at the moment, but I'm happy with the contribution to the Challenge metres. Temporarily at number 2 before Ivan and Jack continue their ding dong battle.
Tomorrow the Spring series kicks off, so don't forget to get those 6000m entries in this week (if you're able). I think I'm taking a rest day tomorrow, but hopefully knock out either a 6km or a CTC on Tuesday evening.

Thot you must have done a macroth special, Dave. Hamburgered your bum, did you? Been there done that but on a road bike 25 yrs. ago on six day bike tour out of Cortland NY. I’m doing the April Fool daily distance ladder now so as to store enuf glycogen to limp thru the Walpole Tricentennial CTC. Exciting stuff. Ivan will drop me very soon on the WEC. I’ll just say I wunt racing haha. People have more fun than anybody.
Busy this weekend cutting circles from wool felt to replace the particulate pre-filters of my old organic vapor canister respirators. Wife and I wore our gas masks to do the biweekly food run this AM. No one even noticed. We are all on the beach now; no further need for Nevil Shute or Stephen King.
Butt [sic] lucky us no panic over scarce—uhm, ah—paper products. Who was that man (what invented bidet sprayers?) i want to shake his hand. AFTER a good washing up!

Great job on the bike erg, Dave!
I meant to try and row today, but I ended up doing indoor walking instead, just in bits and pieces, but they added up and I was doing high knee and upward arm punches and um, air Nordic walking, LOL! So if I'm mobile tomorrow, I'll try to row then.
Got on the inversion table at regular intervals today, trying to get used to a VERY slightly steeper angle. I've also ordered a leg wedge pillow. I've been a side sleeper all my life, but I think side sleeping is not the best thing, even though I've got a pillow between my legs and a little curved pillow to keep my spine straight like my doctor suggested. I have to try, just in case sleeping on my back could help.

Re: Forum Flyers
The imagery coming out of the US while I'm prepping to go to work is awesome - Chernobyl-style gas mask wearing, bidet spraying and upside-down people.
I'm not sure I could do more than 3 days on a row on a bike, but a 6-day tour must also have been quite an experience to go through. Not feeling too bad today, but I think I'll take the rest day anyway, and prep mentally for tomorrow's maximal effort on the rower (whichever one it might be).
Off to the home office to push my mouse around a bit so I look online and awake!

CTC All time wonderment update (to March 2020)
Statto here
Sorry for the delay but non un-noticed should it go, well come to the 100 club, Frank, THe Boss (David Moores), Todd (and what a grand return) and Lindsay. It take commitment and a measure of insanity to complete 100 CTC's.
Obvs, i'm not a professional, any problem with the figures and I will happilly change for an agreed fee

Re: Forum Flyers
That said, how are we all?, I'm lucky enough to be working, from home mostly so looking forward to a bit of training on the rower.
Mad times we live in, hope you are all staying safe, if you cant get tot he rower, don't worry, there are more important things in life. get one the tube and get some of those work outs in.
As a Trained PT, got to say, although he is a bit annoying, Joe wickes for sharp workouts and it you look up Greg Brookes for Kettlebells, you wont go too far wrong.
Anyone struggling for straight forward advice, let me know, just tell me what equipment you have and I can give you a good all round workout regime, probably with a few tests in there so you can have some targets. I recognise I am very lucky to live near a park and I have a garage, so exercise is easy for me, loads of people where it is not.
My main advice, eat to be flatulent and social distancing is not a problem, even the kids stay away

Re: Forum Flyers
well done everyone in this curious time.
I am in the unusual position of being busier at work rather than quieter so it is harder for me to get the meters up. I also struggle to keep my training intensity up at home and much prefer the gym. I now have weights at home as well which is good as this may be all we have for the next 6 months.
101 consecutive months!! That feels good - thanks Shirley Godkin for roping me in all those years ago.
Todd Carpenter's return to the erg is very very impressive - amazing times.

Re: Forum Flyers
Jabba, I dont think the privacy settings matter.. just log your meters and join up for the challenges (think you have to be 'selected' for the spring eights challenge, but if you put in the efforts at the specified distances I'm sure you will be picked up).
I dont think I share my log with the general public but challenge meters are registered just fine.
@Jackarabit: whats this I'm reading, am I to lose my steadfast tormentor in the WEC this month? Was sort of starting to enjoy the constant tit-for-tat in the standings (at a respectful distance from Martin's unattainable score).
@Slothful: Good work racking up those meters.. Gives me something to shoot for this week.
I took a break from erging for the weekend since some of my bits (not the nether region ones) were really getting sore from all the mileage..
The weather is wonderful in the Netherlands this week so I took to the bike instead and got a nice easy 50km ride in on sunday. Shame I cant
mount a PM to my 70's roadbike so I could log the meters, but I'm not going to end up in the individual top 100 either way so why worry.
Now I need to figure out where to fit in a decent 6k effort (thats gonna hurt) in my training schedule. Not looking forward to actual hard work but it would be fun to be part of the challenge with this team.
