since there are a lot of posts from people asking about proper technique...and almost just as many different replies, the website below has some short videos of great rowers that can be played frame by frame:

http://www.invernessrowingclub.co.uk/

go to 'strokecycles' on the left menu.

there is a couple of erging videos at the bottom as well:
xeno muller (who says rowing doesn't build large muscle mass??) and paul smith erging at night.

the eskild videos don't work as it simply loads a blank screen and the browser at the bottom of the screen says done. Does anyone have any other videos of international rowers erging as it would be interesting to see

The Xeno Muller vidoe interests me immensly. I'm only a Novice rower and have been taught that my hands must be quick and my arms fully extended (and with body lean) before my knees even break, yet if you look at 26% through the recovery his knees are breaking and his hands aren't past them yet! I also noticed similar things when observing several of the scullers. Is the technique of getting your arms out before your knees are bent merely a Novice thing that is changed later when you become stronger? Am very interested in people's comments.

Chloé
xxx

One thing I find fascinating is that the knees certainly do not "lock," and in fact appear to "bounce" a bit towards the end of the drive. That is, the legs extend, but it does not appear to be absolutely full, and the knees raise up a bit as the stroke is finished with the back and arms.

This appears consistent across all the video on the water, both sweeps and sculls. I'm fairly confident that I've seen it first hand as well, in a number of good crews.
