Training
I have started training for a marathon (using the training guide from the UK web site) I am at about week 10 and the long rows are getting to be around an hour.
My question is how do you hydrate on these long row and for the marathon? do you stop and drink or is there an other way? I had thought of the hydration packs they use for biking but the ones I have looked at require 1 hand to operate.

Thanks
Paul

I have a glass of cranberry and a glass of water next to the erg. After around 45 mins in I pull with one hand and take a gulp of each. Then again 20 mins later.

I also find that eating a dried apricots at the same intervel keeps me going. They contain lots of potassium and are easy on the stomach.

Doing this, I've never had a problem with hydration (and I am a sweater... )
That what i thought I would have to do, but was hoping that someone may have come up with somthing different. I did the half-marathon a few years back but iI ended up stoping to get a drink, it hard to get going again and you lose somtime.

Thanks Again
Paul
If I ever do a serious try at a fast marathon, I'm going to have to ask my sister to come around every 20' or so with a big spoon full of power-goo and a squirt bottle.

While I can row a half M or the hour without stopping or drinking, both times I have done the M I have stopped 3-4 times during the row for a minute or two just to stop, stretch, change butt pads, and to eat and drink (say at 12, 23, and 34 k). Rowing the M without stopping at all would be a lot harder (I don't see how I could do it without changing butt pads or adding bubble wrap!).

But it is also not that hard to grab a water bottle and row one handed for a pull or two and take a drink. You can keep yourself hydrated pretty well just doing that. I also cut up fruit and other food and would grab that too. I am not sure I really need the calories, but they don't hurt and it is nice distraction to eat and/or drink every 5k.
