My parents gone and no living children. Going to get groceries for my 85yr. old neighbor this morning. We call it “getting supplies” now. Did skierg and that picked up a bit, was closing in to Pr territory. Felt overall a bit better, pains started to ease off. Right shoulder still mhe though.
Tuesday, I ate something bad, foodpoisening, really really upset stomach, saw the toilet very often, could not eat for days. Lost a lot of weight, but am eating again...
Bad new from my mother, she needs open heart surgery... pretty out of the blue. Not feeling good about this And in the current Corona situation she can,t get visit. So can only talk over the foon. Hoping for the best.
And last, just now, over here, the Netherlands, everything is in lockdown, only the shops are open, so more or less home locked, three weeks for starters.....
Sorry to hear that Henry, all the best for your mother!
The Corona pandemic affects us all, here in Austria we're in about the same situation, only leave home for (very important) work, food, medicine.
And good to see your skierg training works good!

Cheers people,
The virus is about two things.
One, protect the vulnerable, older, weaker, sick people, those need to stay in isolation, more or less. Those are the ones who could die.
Two, the rest of the population should, slowly get in contact with this virus, to get herd immunity , this should go slow enough so the medical healthcare system can keep up with treating the sick.
A complete lockdown would mean, complete isolation for a whole population until there is a vaccine, that could maybe take a year, so simply not an option.
Think this will take months before there is some sort of controle. This will become a very weird year

Entertaining story, Cynthia! I can picture the eye-rolling and gesturing at the remains of the archaeological dig as you worked through the luggage. And can almost imagine a husband going... "what?"

He had a bit of a grump next morning as he wasn't quite sure where things were, but surely it had to be easier to find anything at all after I was done.... And the closet doors are safe from falling off the rail, which is good, because last time one did, he was hopeless at getting it back on. I did it, but now, I doubt I'd be able. Takes patience and strength.

OK, my back wasn't too bad this morning, not good either, still a fair amount of nerve pain in my right hip/butt, but I've been missing rowing and no activity isn't good for me either.
So, I have *a* CTC challenge done. It is not a very good one. I could tell that I should not push at all, so that was just slow steady rowing for 4 minutes, then walking around for 3 during the rest interval, then strapping back in and so on so forth.
Rowing was at the point it didn't feel good, but wasn't producing bad twinges either. So I think I'll do some light stuff, try again in a few. If nothing goes further south. If you want me to enter what I have, I can, but it's pretty bad....

Re: Forum Flyers
Every effort is worth recording, Cynthia, and it could be the reason another boat floats off the dock. Also, it's a snapshot of where you were at the time. So if you're feeling stronger later in the month, you will know you can chase down that entry and pass it. And if you don't get back onto the rower this month, you've at least contributed to the team entries and done your bit!

I'm OK enough today, no better no worse. Been to the doctor, he asked how things were going, I told him I feel like I'm making adjustments and can carry on at this level of pain. Spine injections are not out of the question, if things get worse, but those have risks and don't cure anything and don't necessarily even work for very long.
So we are leaving well enough alone at the moment and he wants to see me again in 3 months, or if things change for the worse, because, as he reminded me again, "You have a VERY bad back." He was pleased to see 6 pounds of weight loss since he'd last seen me, I did tell him I took a maintenance break during Jan/Feb and am back at it again now. He says further weight loss can only help, as long as I don't lose muscle.
I told him I'm doing what I can at home with bodyweight resistance and resistance bands, the local gym has closed because of the coronavirus. I don't think I'll row today, my foot is complaining a bit, hopefully a light easy short row tomorrow again.

See Cynthia - you floated a boat! Well done to finish
Terry and I did the ctc tonite - a little concerned that our gym will close soon as part of the COVID response so wanted to get a score on the board
Mine was @1:50.7 and terry was @1:56.5 (he just pushed Rick out of boat 2 and surprised himself a bit too)

Re: Forum Flyers
No problem Dave:) - I have more than enough challenges on the go with the World ERG and the Mud Season on C2's website - we can get to the IRL at some point convenient for you.Slothful1 wrote: ↑March 15th, 2020, 6:17 pmGood work Andrew. Saw you entered a CTC distance just before I logged one tonight. On the IRL, I don't think we can change members after the first month, so we'll have to plan our team entry when it kicks off again later this year. But thanks for getting in on the team challenge and affiliations, so you've ticked all the boxes now.AndrewBrown1972 wrote: ↑March 15th, 2020, 3:25 pmThanks Dave. I think I am - mostly - done with the tasks, but struggling with one of them... I've changed my affiliation and team for the March challenge - no problem there. Also did the CTC thing - as you mentioned it was a little fiddly, but has worked in the end (albeit a lowly 3800 or so). However, for the IRL, I can find Forum Flyers as the IRC club, but there is no option to pick anything in the 8on8 team name that could see - as such, maybe it's full for now as you mention...?
Dave
Thanks again

Re: Forum Flyers
I agree that there are enough challenges going in a typical month, and the IRL tends to get a token effort for me depending on other priorities at the time. The one advantage of the IRL is that it often is a ranking piece, so it forces you to go for some of the times / distances that I don't normally include in my training. There is another challenge that you might want to look at - the FMMC which overlaps with the IRL to a large extent, but replaces some of the non-ranking months with a ranking piece. It also does some age / weight standardisation, and some club / country rankings to add something different.
I find that if I'm not on a specific training plan, then the monthly challenges are useful to force me to get something done at least a couple of times a week. On the BikeErg / Zwift combo there are also various challenges through the year, so definitely enough to add some structure for a lazy person like me.
I see from your logbook profile that you're from Norfolk - my parents and sister live in Caister-on-Sea, so we might be able to arrange a mini Forum Flyers reunion next time I'm visiting the family (December plane tickets were booked before the travel ban, so hopefully that has run its course by the end of the year!).

Re: Forum Flyers
Our very own Ewen Roth is rowing 100km tomorrow to raise money for charity if you want to pop a donation over to him...
I had planned on participating in a 24-hour cross-country ski race on March 21-22 and was taking this opportunity to raise funds for Insieme Genève, a local organization that helps intellectually disabled people and their families. Since the race was cancelled because of the coronavirus, I will be rowing 100km at home on Sunday 22 March. https://www.facebook.com/events/216165586451096/ http://www.insieme-ge.ch/ https://ski-24.ch/fr/
Donation link
Good luck Ewen. Let us know how it went!

FWIW, if you haven't already tried it Pilates has been the best thing I've found for dealing with back pains. Just the simple floor exercises that take about 15 minutes or so. For me they have worked almost like magic to bring me back from some severe back pains in a matter of days.graycyn wrote: ↑March 16th, 2020, 7:55 pmOK, my back wasn't too bad this morning, not good either, still a fair amount of nerve pain in my right hip/butt, but I've been missing rowing and no activity isn't good for me either.

Pilates and rowing go together like bread and butter. The synergies from both are extremely compatible.Yankeerunner wrote: ↑March 21st, 2020, 10:08 pm

I have been doing it for about seven years now and I wouldn't be without it.
