Finally got the pacing of the 10k figured out. My former PB was 36:55, and I have tried 4-5 times lately to go sub 36, but not being able to. Today was finally the day, and happy not only to break it, but crushing it 😎💪

New PB: 35:24.1 :)
You completely crushed it - that is impressive!
Thank you KeithT, my previous PB was my first 10k TT, so it was not well executed, but this one was definitely better. I am also happy to be doing it on my third week in a caloric deficit, need to reduce some of the jiggle on the stomach :)

Splits were:
7:16, 7:12, 7:08, 7:00 and finally 6:48. On previous attempts I have tried to do it in same pace all the way, but I prefer negative splitting it.

I have done my best 1K, 2K and 5K with a slight negative split and it works well yet when I do longer TTs I have a habit of trying to build a cushion. I need to them with more of a negative split. I would like a sub 36 10K too but need to train some more on my longer rows which I have started.

Had a couple of days rest and done a warm up then tried for a 500m PB.
I felt I had a bit more in me from my PB earlier in the week, knocked 3 seconds off that time.

Got 1:22.7 happy with that 6 weeks after my first attempt at any rowing.

Simply went off faster in the first 7/8 strokes then picked it up a bit until 200m ish, then hold on and just try to get that average time to at least hold or drift as little as possible. Also I found keeping the strokes longer towards the end rather than shortening too much I believe worked out better.

Enjoying a different challenge.

Cheers Dean.
Good work Dean, and very fast improvement. I guess you'll be a good bit faster at 100m too :)
Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

Hoping to improve the 100m as well Martin yes. That 14.4 is great timing and the 500m as well. What drag do prefer to set up with in the 100m & 500m?

I’ve been doing lower back work as well, trap bar deadlifts and box squats for Power in the quads.

Thank you Dean! My plan for this season was sub 1:20 for the 500m, don't think I'll hit that goal as my training wasn't good for the last weeks, but hopefully I'll get close :) With more practise and some longer rows I think you'll soon be at 1:20.
For 100m my drag was 210, for 500m a little lower at 180.

Thank you Dean! My plan for this season was sub 1:20 for the 500m, don't think I'll hit that goal as my training wasn't good for the last weeks, but hopefully I'll get close :) With more practise and some longer rows I think you'll soon be at 1:20.

Will have a go at the 100m and likely the 500m over the next week or so. Will try some different drag settings.

The 1:20 will be great target to go for.

Good luck.

Wow, that's a great time for the 500m! Faster than me and rivals you with Martin, though I expect he goes lower soon. Did you adjust anything with drag and pacing or just do better?

Thanks Mr T.

I set a drag of 183 and just went off a little faster than usual and focused on the first 300m with as full length stroke as possible.

It was in the evening as well after 9pm and a days work so (dare I say it) I believe on a fresh day i could go for a 1:20 something or less.
They’re great times you have as well and you’re 9/10 years wiser than myself! In the 40-49 heavyweight category the top spot is 1:20.5 but that extra second lower may need quite a bit more work yet....enjoying it though.

PBs are strange. I agree you should do even better with being fresh and having sleep, testing at right time of day......but I have also done a lot of PBs when not expecting it or even planning on testing. I want to see you and martin flirt with the sub 1:20 - cool milestone.

Yes very true that Mr T.
I actually just went to the gym and thought I would do a typical weights workout with a bit of rowing but had a warm up, set the 500m distance and just thought see how it goes, whereas on another day I could try to set up everything right with rest, food, hydration etc and not get it.
I used to do the same when training for strength and sometimes would just get a maximum lift PB but wasn’t focusing on going for that at all.

Both yourself and Martin have great times and I’m sure we can all push for the sub 1:20.

Would be very good motivation.

Yeees, when buying the C2 in November 2019, I set an almost untouchable goal of breaking into sub17 on the 5k within 6 months. Today it was finally achieved, happy to say it was demolished 😆🥵🤢

Finally got the pacing of the 10k figured out. My former PB was 36:55, and I have tried 4-5 times lately to go sub 36, but not being able to. Today was finally the day, and happy not only to break it, but crushing it 😎💪

I am better at the 1K and can stay ahead of Martin on the longer rows but the short sprints - while I have a pretty good 500m not sure I can go much lower - you guys can challenge eachother there.
