Anyone here using Asensei with their rower? Looks like an interesting app affiliated with Eric Murray.

I don’t usually resent successful athletes converting their fleeting celebrity to ready cash but at a glance this hustle looks to be all hat no cattle.

Why so negative? I think it looks interesting. My problem is that I only have a PM3 and this app requires PM5

Name suggests Japanese martial arts. Must one adopt an attitude of unquestioning subordination to acquire the conditioning to pull a chain? And I went to sleep when the intro package didn’t get to a bill of particulars, training theory, schedule, etc. in less than 5’. Sorry.

Just completed my first Asensei workout. The first session is a 30 minute introduction to rowing with Murray giving a nice demo of the rowing stroke while you row along. It's a pretty good visual of the stroke and it was nice to follow along with his pacing. I still consider myself a novice, so it was good for me to watch him row while I tried to match my stroke rate along with the different parts of his drive.

Overall, I enjoyed using the app and will continue on with Murray's 6 week instructional course which appears to be free. I think this app could be fantastic for beginners.

Shane Farmer mentioned them on a workout video a couple of days ago. He's partnered with them so you can have him as a coach via their platform. I really like Shane's stuff so I am thinking of trying it for a while. How are you getting on with it now?

I've been using the Asensei app for the past 2 weeks. I've now completed 6 workouts and have really enjoyed rowing "alongside" Eric Murray. Watching him row has helped my timing and technique. I think I tend to pull my arms a bit early but have been able to limit this with the app.

This week there was a significant update released. Most useful for me is the direct link to the Concept2 logbook. The app now automatically logs my meters when the session workout is complete. It also now allows you to select your own music.

Post here if you decide to try and use Shane Farmer's workouts.

Shane's first program on asensei will be released before the end of the month. The team are hard at work finishing it off, but it's a great program that is a continuous 8-week cycle of both on erg training, off-erg strength training and off-erg mobility work. We had a lot of fun filming in San Diego a few weeks ago, and much more to come. Looking forward to your feedback.

There are lots of options available for training plans but I have been pleasantly surprised by Asensei. After a little initial disappointment over how little of an interface there is you get stuck into rowing and the simplicity of the app shines.

I think there is real scope here to be game changing. I'm four weeks in and plan to continue. I look forward to app updates

I agree. The app is really quite easy to use. It gets really interesting when Asensei calculates the pace you should be targeting based on your previous efforts. Those have been fun but quite brutal.

I just tried the first workout. It’s a little slow but very good quality and a nice integration with overlaid data from the PM5.

Not sure how many workouts you can complete for free but I will consider purchasing as the quality is very good.

I am not sure from the app if a purchase of the app, which is fairly expensive, includes workouts with just one trainer or all workouts, does anyone on here know?

Why not ask the developer at https://asensei.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

Thanks for the link. It looks like you pay for the trainer and their programme.

Curious what your continued experience with Asensei has been. I tried one free class and liked it. However, i am finding the app very confusing related to what you get. It seem like everything is alacarte and its all expensive.

Does not seem to be too much feedback on this app. I was hoping someone may have experience with it. I find it really confusing related to what you get when you sign up. Wondering just how many workouts are available in each part you pay for e.g. the Senpai, Eric Murray, Shane Farmer.
From what i can see it looks like you have to pay for each of these workouts? I have a peloton, C2 and TRX so this looks like it may be something interesting. However, if all have to be purchased separately its a no go for me.
