I am a really "bad" sprinter(I used to never train it up until the last weeks while prepping for the comp), but what I have is good aerobic capacity, so I am able to hold close to max tempo for the whole 1k :)

3:26 is a superb time also, congrats :)

Getting better at sprints requires some horrible sprinting sessions but you also may never be able to produce a really fast time due to your physiology.

Don't talk yourself out of a better performance if you're tempted to try and get faster

100m PB 15.3 a few days ago. (Joint 5th in the old man category on Concept2 rankings)😬

Today 500m PB 1.25.6.

Felt I had a little bit more in the 500m so will improve on that over the next few weeks.

Been trying different drag settings and either setting off faster and then a natural decline as the row goes on and also trying to just maintain a set pace.

Enjoy.

Just did a 20:01 5k. It's not something I test, but I had a 20:38 from October that I wanted to update.
Pacing was terrible and I ended up sprinting at about 250m at sub 1:40 to try to pull it back under 20 minutes.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HR

Good progress being made. Next time try starting at 1:59 pace and maintain that until circa 3k and see if you can nudge it down.

A PB is still a PB and sub 20' is in sight for sure! Looks like you had some left in the tank so as Stu says maybe start at 1:59 and look to hold that.

Cheers guys, I think I'll go at at even 2:00 or just under next time.
It's just a distance I don't test often so I didn't want to crash at 3k.

Fair comment, but your self confidence is just as much a part of success as fitness. When you feel like you're done and can't carry on you're only at 40% of absolute exhaustion.

It is not uncommon for me to have a wobble at 3.5k but to just keep going and eventually it passes as your mind accepts that you're not stopping so your emotional side of your mind doesn't keep controlling your thoughts.

When you get more used to the grind you can have more trust in the process. There's no alternative to just doing lots of metres and building experience to what feels really tough but ultimately manageable. Admittedly we all probably have days when you just suddenly quit and there's nothing that you can do about it but that's when you need to turn frustration at quitting into fuel for the next time

This is something I've heard before from David Goggins, so true.

Great work - and I humbly suggest you can go well under 20:00 with revised pacing, but what you did here seems sensible nonetheless.

Strong final 1k even if it was down to pacing, as you say.

Finally got the pacing of the 10k figured out. My former PB was 36:55, and I have tried 4-5 times lately to go sub 36, but not being able to. Today was finally the day, and happy not only to break it, but crushing it 😎💪
