Excellent! I like the 25spm out of the gate. It shows that you have a great competitive spirit. Be smart with the back. Don't overdo things, but make steady, sensible progress. You're doing great!graycyn wrote: ↑March 4th, 2020, 5:34 pmI did my first 1000m sprint! Couldn't hardly breathe at the end!
Wasn't real sure how it would go, but I figure I can't try every day, so earlier was better to see how it went in case I want and feel able to try again. The bad news is I realized I'd forgotten to make cold brew yesterday, so no coffee. But I'd bought a bag of Lily's stevia sweetened dark chocolate baking chips to try and figured a couple servings of that could put me in a happy place. It did. Dark chocolate always does....
I warmed up a little longer, just a minute more, think that helps. 18spm for a bit, then slow ascent to my usual cruising altitude of 21spm. That felt fine, so at the tail end, I tried 23 and that was OK too. So I got off, had some water, walked around just a little, got back on.
Out of the gate I hit 25spm!!!!! But I was feeling smooth and connected and it wasn't hurting, and I was keeping it up! With form! Uncharted waters, because I had no idea if I could maintain that. I decided to run with it. Mostly I did, with some slips to 24. Made 5.41.3 AND I'M NOT LAST! I'm 93rd out of 102 currently for my age/weight.
Upper back feels a tiny bit spasmy, but my low back seems OK, and frankly, I get the upper back stuff just walking around the house, so I'm not worried.

My PB 1k from late 2016. I believe I was 1” slower on the World Rowing Sprint K earlier that yr. Can’t even do it this year owing to cataract surgery 4 and 11 March. I am seeing “faster” in my left eye already so certainly worth the “sacrifice.” I post it as an example of flat pacing +/-.25” over first 800m and because when I have nothing to brag about, I brag about that.

Re: Forum Flyers
Strong time there Lindsay, and some good consistency with your other scores. I wouldn't be complaining with an adjusted score that's so close to the top!lindsayh wrote: ↑March 6th, 2020, 6:52 amTerry and I did the 1k on Wednesday for the sprints:
Mine was 3:21.2 which was my best this season but continued the documented annual slide in power from 3:11 in 2017 through 3:15 and 3:17 last year. Last I checked it was 5th in the 60+ which is OK I guess. The '17 result was a month after the Boston WIRC adventure so I was in pretty good shape then. Terry was pleased with his 3:45 given his training is less that he would like at the moment - he had a 3:37 last October to set a 75+ lwt AR. His is 3rd right now in the 70+ lwts
FWIW Dave the Nonathlon score is 983 for that one (and 984 for the 500 and 2k so pretty consistent)
The CTC is a bit interesting too (for an erg nerd) because it is exactly the same as the Jan '17 one so able to compare. I managed it @1:45 then and did the 2k at Boston @1:41.6 a month later. Another documentation of age related decline sadly on its way but a reasonable guide to pacing.
http://c2ctc.com/index.php?c_id=143
I went off to check my past score for the Jan '17 CTC, but sadly that was during my unexplained year-plus absence from the competition. So going to have to go in and take a stab at it (but hoping not to do 2 this month). I saw someone suggesting 2k+2 pace, but I might lean towards your 2k+3 to 4 rather.

Good luck with round 2, Jack. I'm assuming round 1 was OK if you're on the forum and not mis-typing things .
As long as you're back in the saddle for the next team challenge on 15 March, all is good.

Thanks Dave. Phaeco-emulsification is the most fun one can have with a knife and a vacuum nozzle stuck in one’s eye! I will try to do some meters during the WEC.
@ LindsayH: Old age ain’t for sissies. Best not miss a shift “on the long decline” and lose your tranny. [Long May You Run, Neil Young]. Terry sure lives the name of that tune!

I'm not fighting it much Jack - happy to embrace it. We have the privilege in this peculiar "sport" of documenting/measuring the decline to a decimal point.
Terry had a smile too!

Re: Forum Flyers
Did the 1km yesterday, and was happy with an SB of 3:49.3 (2 seconds off my November time which was for the FMMC). Still 2 more seconds to get to my 40+ PB, which I had half an eye on, but in the end didn't have the extra power. I paced it flat at the November pace until 200m out, but the heart rate was at 190 by the end, so I don't think I had much more left to give.
744 points on the Nonathlon, well behind Lindsay's performance!
Was about 3 weeks since I was on the rower, and felt good to do something on it for a change. I've been doing about 4 sessions a week on the BikeErg, but I'll probably start alternating once I'm through the 6 week training plan.
Tonight's bike session ended up being 2h13. When the 1h26 training session was over I thought I needed about 20 minutes to complete one of the Zwift routes, but as usual I misestimated the time it takes to drag a bulky virtual body up steep virtual hills.

Re: Forum Flyers
Just a quick post to say hello. I joined the team today and will certainly be doing my best to contribute as many metres as I can.
I mainly row to keep fit – plenty of pounds to lose – so I generally row every day. I rowed semi-regularly on my C2 a while back, then didn’t for a while, then started again some months ago. I cover at least 3k every day, although try to go further than this when I’ve time before work; I usually aim for 125k to 200k per month, give or take. In the summer months here in the UK I also try to cycle most days and sometimes, when keenness overtakes common sense, will do a short run too.
Looking forward to all the challenges and keeping up the motivation for the rest of the year and for years to come.
All the best
Andrew

Re: Forum Flyers
Welcome on board, Andrew!
I'm going to plagiarise a post of mine from a while back to save some typing (need to get this type of thing up onto a team website one day)...
There are 4 events that are running simultaneously, and they all need some form of separate sign-up:
Firstly, the general team affiliation runs throughout the season - you'll need to choose "Forum Flyers" as your Affiliation under your log book profile (this is different to "Team" which is needed for the 2nd event), and then all your metres will accrue to the Forum Flyer total.
Secondly, the World Erg Challenge needs you to join the "Forum Flyers (since 2005)" team, which is under the Teams heading on the log book. And then you need to join World Erg Challenge so that your metres contribute to the challenge.
Thirdly the Cross Team Challenge will need another login to be set up. The sign up process is apparently a little fiddly with the occasional odd error message, but it sounds like if you keep trying it will eventually let you join, and then it's seamless from then on. Others who've signed up more recently might be able to add more to this. Once you've done that month's challenge, and entered it onto the site, the allocation to specific Forum Flyers boats will be done automatically (each boat needs at least 1 female, 1 lightweight, and the rest can be filled with anyone, including the fat boys like me).
Finally, if you're still reading, there is the Indoor Rowers League where the best 8 age-adjusted times from a team of 10 will be used for that month's leaderboard. Look for "High Flyers 18" as the 8on8 team name when registering. [I don't think we filled all the spots at the start of the season, but if it looks full then just wait for the new season to start and we'll sort out the teams properly then.]
Feel free to ask more questions if my list has caused more confusion!
Cheers
Dave

Re: Forum Flyers
Just realising that being captain of the team isn't all fame, glory and high salaries - I sometimes have to do some work along the way. Some of you would have received this via the logbook message system, but to try spread the word as far as possible, here's the same message again...
Hi Forum Flyers
The World Erg Challenge starts on 15 March and runs through to 15 April. Last year we came 24th with nearly 4.5 million metres, and I'd like us to keep up the historical trend of improving our metres and position each year.
For your metres to count you need to go to the Teams section of the logbook and join the challenge. This has to be done for each challenge, so even those who did the Virtual Team Challenge in January will need to do this step.
I'd also like to encourage you to join us on the monthly Cross Team Challenge. We're always looking for extra support for that competition. Check out c2ctc.com, send me an e-mail or drop past the forum page at c2forum.com.
Cheers

Welcome Andrew (Brown), our second Andrew (at least) after Andrew (Crystal). Good to have you aboard!
Did my CTC this morning. Hard work, but got it done. With a furious last 4' I averaged about 2K + 0.9-2.0 (depending on which recent 2K I reference). Don't intend to do it again as I doubt that I could do any better.

Surprise, I just joined your team. I hope that's ok with you folks I realize I should have asked before joining but I had read several posts that said you were open to new members so I just took a chance. Let me know if I am guilty of breaking etiquette.
A little about me. New to concept2 machines however I have been an off and on rower for a few years. You can't tell by my times, though. I am rather slow. I paddled outrigger canoes when I was a teenager (many years ago) but that's the extent of my on water experience. I am a cardiovascular ICU nurse. Rowing helps relieve work stress and keeps my heart in shape.
I'm looking forward to contributing meters to the team.

Nice, Rick. I'm not sure I have the guts to push for a 2k + 2 pace when I try this (maybe this weekend), but also not sure I want to repeat it later in the month either! Will see how I feel on the day.Yankeerunner wrote: ↑March 12th, 2020, 12:51 pmDid my CTC this morning. Hard work, but got it done. Welcome on board, Rubaiyat! We are a welcoming bunch, so will not take offence for your proactive joining process . All we ask in return is to add some metres to the affiliation totals every month, join the team challenges when Concept2 runs them, pop a Cross Team Challenge time in for us every month, and occasionally drop in and throw some comments on the forum thread.Rubaiyat wrote: ↑March 12th, 2020, 2:39 pmSurprise, I just joined your team. Let us know if you need any help figuring out any of the above.
If you're willing to share any other background info, knowing first name, gender and rough age is helpful context for the team. (Adding mental note to To Do list - we need a team summary page somewhere to save some brief profiles so that new people know who the incumbents are.)
Also useful to get progress updates as you try various distances for first time.
Cheers
