2:59.7 for the 1k sprint challenge :D was definitely dreaming about it, but figured it would not happen until next years comp.

It was not pretty to watch, but got it done!

Wow, that's a great result, big congrats!
After your 2x1k/4'R I was very sure you'll crush your PB :)

Thank you very much MartinSH4321, I am very satifsied about it, I had a "sub3"-plan for the competition, glad I won't have to try 3 times during the 5 days

Did you have a go at it yet? Surely your results lately are also looking very promising for your part :)

Atm hay fever is slowing me down, normal training feels harder than usual and I get breathing problems, and one of my kids is sick, not the best preconditions for a 1k TT  I hope it will get better and I can give it a good go, but I don't put myself under too much preassure, if I can't do it, bad luck. I'll get a new PB this season for sure :)
I'm curious what time you'll get at the 500m, maybe that's a distance where we can challenge

Sorry to hear that, hope you will be back soon, and that the kiddo will get well soon :) Know what you mean about the pre-conditions, have a 2 and 5 year old also, and sometimes it just seems like there are too many obstacles, when you get to start working out at 9/10 PM

I will definitely not be chasing you on the 500, you are a complete powermonster there! You will reach sub1:20 long before I can get anywhere near 1:25. During my 1k yesterday the lowest I saw was 1:26

Given your build and age certainly not unexpected, think you are underestimating your potential.

Congrats

Re 500, don,t know what technique you are using, but a 500 is a lot faster than a 1k, think you should try a few 100m sprints to get a feeling for your speed. You should be able to pull 1.23 ish for certain.

Thank you, yeah we're in the same boat here :)

I agree with Henry (as almost always  ), you underestimate your potential. As you can hold sub 1:30 for 1k you'll be much faster for half the distance, and your 30R20 shows that you have enough power. Propably you'll need 2-3 attempts as it's very different to the more aerobic distances, even the 1k. You'll do fine :D

The 1:20 is a big goal for me (like the sub 3 1k), I'll give it a try before this season ends, but I don't think I'll get it, my aerobic fitness still needs to be better (but at least I had big improvements this season, so next season I'll get it), lots of UT2 work to do for me

Preface - Why can't I row a good 2km? I do all these PRs in the 5000 (18:13) and 10000 (37:12) but I still blow up in the 2km? Any advice?

Last night was a 10,000m PR - This was so hard. I did a 5km warm-up (slow) and then got after it with a 10km time trial at 1:51.6 pace --- 37:12.5

It started well but got rough after the first 4km. There was nothing I could do to avoid positive splitting the whole thing… I just got more and more exhausted as it went along. I hit 5km in 18:27 and 8km in 29:41 though, which sounded good to me. The last 4km were bad though. So hard...

One good thing was that I have worked recently to lower the drag factor (4 on the damper) so I was pulling only 107. That is why my stroke rate was higher than usual (33 spm). I come from a running background and don't mind the higher stroke rate. I am not a "strong" rower so I make up for my weakness with spm.

p.s. My old PR was 37:19, so this was a 7 second PR. Rowing is so hard.

Date Mar. 4, '20
2,000m 7:21
4,000m 7:23
6,000m 7:26

10,000m 7:31
Total Time 37:12.5
Pace / 500m 1:51.6
Stokes / Min. 33
Drag Factor 107

Awesome work! You beat my PB by .1 seconds too, now I will have to try and top that :D . Didn't happen today (see training post) but maybe in coming months.

I apparently had never ranked a 1k before, and decided to go for the sprint challenge tonight. Did a 20m warmup then surprised myself with this. Definitely fly and die but held on better than I thought I would.

Aggressive start indeed, good going :D Perhaps you could try to hold 1:50 for the whole piece next time, and rather increase the speed at 200 meters left if you are up for it?

Thanks! I sat down to do it with no plan or expectations, with a loose goal of going sub 4:00. I thought the best way to do it having not really done much sprinting at all would be go as fast as I can to build a cushion, then hold on for dear life.

Other than the last 750m, I really enjoyed it!
