Best single exercise machine for a home
Re: Best single exercise machine for a home
here in NZ the C2 Rowers are ridiculous prices. new they are approx $2400. second hand up to that depending on age and condition. rentals are approx $16 per week not including establishment fees (approx $300). so for me with the gold level of gym membership of $14 per week its more cost effective for me to gym it and get the use of everything plus all the classes if i choose to do so. if i got really serious about it then i would re visit that decision but until i get my health issues under control its gym for me as and when i feel good enough to do anything

Not sure about that. As the comedian Al Murray says "if you hold a globe of the world up, you will see Brtiain is God's country, why else would he have put it in the middle at the top".

By that logic Tahiti would be the worst imaginable place on earth. If you hold up the globe so that you're looking at the backside (like virtually all of earth's land is one one side.), Tahiti is a dot almost exactly in the middle.

Re: Best single exercise machine for a home
I started with a rower and used it steady for almost 2 years, made a lot of gains!
I recently got a smart trainer for my road bike though... I find the interactive apps and the workouts super engaging and a great resource for tracking progress. If space is an issue, the smart trainer can be connected to your bike in about 3 minutes, and disconnected just as quick. In terms of total floor space and efficiency (because you can take the bike off the trainer and ride it outside) it's a great way to go. The trainer itself folds up and fits in a closet, on the floor -- it's about 1x2x3 feet in size. 1 foot wide, 2 high and 3 long at the most when folded up -- each type is different though.
To be honest, the total space my c2 and bike (in trainer) take up is about 8 x10 feet.... so you could probably do both

Re: Best single exercise machine for a home
I have to agree - doctor's opinion and try first - no machine or system is best for or appealing to everyone. Having had or accessed in years gone by, all the choices noted in these posts I've landed on the Concept2. I found treadmill loud and impacting, ski machine too demanding, loved road biking but I find bike machine tougher on lower body and not much fun, multi work out stations (tethered weights and rod based resistance) boring and a real nuisance to change from one weight or muscle group to the next, free weights great but not about endurance. The rower is pricey, as noted, but refreshingly quiet, total body, adequate feedback from PM5 and I can get into a state of mindlessness (yeah, I know, nothing is better than mindfulness - except, to me, nothing IS better than mindfulness) as easily as no longer practical long distance road biking, paddling, or cross country skiing. So I have a Concept 2 and dial-adjustable dumb bells across the end of a long narrow living space in view of the TV and earshot of stereo. Just to balance these observations, my girlfriend enjoys neither, but isn't bothered by the presence and relative quiet of the Concept2. The resale value of Concept2 was high enough to mitigate some of the concern about initial cost so I started with up to date warrantied product.
