Sheesh - I didn't think that was possible, given how little the legs contribute to the SkiErg movement. He's a big unit, although the fitness must be pretty outstanding too. Isn't he a rugby player primarily?hjs wrote: ↑February 4th, 2020, 7:22 amJames Hall, (yes the brother from Eddy)

He was yes, but is not seriously working on the skierg. Has a 200 plus bench. The skierg is still relative new, times are not set, records are lowered rapidly. Look at the rankings, a few guys are doing well. Think this is just the beginning.max_ratcliffe wrote: ↑February 4th, 2020, 7:28 amSheesh - I didn't think that was possible, given how little the legs contribute to the SkiErg movement. Re: First sub6 skierg 2k
Old gym is auctioning off its gear tomorrow, but the SkiErg is already nearly as expensive as new. Was rather hoping it would go cheaply. Won't be buying it unfortunately.hjs wrote: ↑February 4th, 2020, 7:52 amHe was yes, but is not seriously working on the skierg. Has a 200 plus bench. Quite impressive aerobic performance for such a large man.
59m, 5'6" 160lbs, rowing and skiing (pseudo) on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Only 'quite impressive'? Wow, you're hard to please
Having tried to go that pace on a skierg for just one stroke I know that this is a massive performance. I can just about hold 1:32 for 30 secs and that is more or less my limit. I know my aerobic fitness isn't elite, but it's not bad either.

Re: First sub6 skierg 2k
You need big upperbody strenght to pull super fast times. Fitness is not enough. Most very fit guys lack upperbody strenght.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑February 6th, 2020, 7:30 amOnly 'quite impressive'? Wow, you're hard to please

How much can you bench!
Most fast skiergers are strong or very strong. And the ones that are superfit can be good on the longer stuff, but not on the sprints.
Those guys pull sub 1.10 pace easily, even around 1.05, nomatter you need lots of raw strenght to get that done.

I agree with this. He didn't post his weight, but his brother weighs 380 to 440+ pounds.

Re: First sub6 skierg 2k
He's gone 2:45 for 1k on the SkiErg so sub-6 for 2k was only a matter of getting around to doing it. Non-trivial, to be sure - IMO a tremendous achievement. But not surprising given some of his other results.

Re: First sub6 skierg 2k
James Marshall did a 2k in 6:03.6 2k three days ago, and a 2k in 5:59.6 today.
His weight is 225 pounds (102.3 kg) which gives him the best equivalent time on a pace per weight basis.
481.7 watts / 225 x 2.2 = 4.7099 watts per kilogram

James Hall: 489.8 watts / 115 ish ??? = 4.259 watts per kilogram

He also has Wr s on the longer distances, while James is faster on the shorter stuff. They meet more or less on the 2k.johnlvs2run wrote: ↑February 20th, 2020, 4:48 pmJames Marshall did a 2k in 6:03.6 2k three days ago, and a 2k in 5:59.6 today.

Both are btw, former Rugby players.
They also both used a drag around 120/25 and training wise, they don,t do overly much volume.

Never heard about this. What is the pace per weight ? Does it apply in rowing ?johnlvs2run wrote: ↑February 20th, 2020, 4:48 pmJames Marshall did a 2k in 6:03.6 2k three days ago, and a 2k in 5:59.6 today.
