HR testing, how to alter recording interval?

Post by Dave F » January 21st, 2020, 6:31 am

Hi,
I have a model E with PM5 and use a Polar H7.

I have found a program I'd like to do (from Heart rate training by ROY BENSON and DECAN CONNOLLY)
however it suggests taking HR figures while doing the AT test, every 30 seconds. Is there a way to do this via the PM5?By default it seems to record HR every 2 mins

Use Ergdata on your phone with your PM5. That records stroke by stroke data.

I guess the two minutes are simply the length of your splits. You are looking in the summary of session, right?

You can set up the split length when you set up a rowing session of fixed length on the PM5. It is the setting at the bottom of the screen. If I remember correctly, the default is dividing the session into 5 splits, so if you set up a 30 minute session, your split length will be 6 minutes. But you can choose any split length as long as it is not less than 1/30 of the total session length.

Thanks, I got the app (iphone 5) but all it does is continually 'search for bluetooth' so cant get it to work.

The PM5 can connect direct to a Polar belt as you know.

The 30s HR test step is quite simple if you've already learnt to row, so can work hard enough to reach max HR; and also know how the PM5 works, to connect the belt and set a piece say 10-12 minutes with 30 second splits. Both must be done with and without ergdata.

A 10 minute 30s split piece can be set via: Menu - Select workout - New wo - Single time, then fill in the page. It won't accept split 00.00, so we have to first set 30s, then go back and cancel the minutes.

Rowing is no problem, even without HR data; just keep the stroke strong (in Watts) and the rating low. At 18-20 it's hard to go over UT2, and UT1 up to 23. This is the big advantage of rowing, no data at all is needed to get fit, just row but not at high ratings. Boats usually have to go long distances, and then come back; so we stay aerobic.
