Deciding to finally jump in here!
Hi ladies - somehow the Women’s Forum seems like a “safer” place for me to post. I bought my C2 in 2016 and have been relatively sporadic in my rowing - some months of being super regular, and then other periods of hardly rowing at all. Over the last several months, I am back on the case and am finally in a place in life where I can see it being a regular part of my routine.
I am not a fast rower at all - I do it more for overall fitness, and am trying to lose 20 pounds in 2020. My average 500 m pace is around 2:40, but I love to turn on a good movie or TV show and go for 30-45 minutes at a time. I met the 100,000 m Holiday Challenge, and am on track to do 100,000 m again in January. My goal is to do that every month this year.
Anyway, I just wanted to jump in here and introduce myself. I get a lot of motivation from reading about others’ successes and hope to learn a lot from you.

Just post in the General forum, overall there are few woman, but really there is nothing to fear. We all have different aims and targets so don't consider yourself as not being very fast, it's all relative and if it ticks all your boxes then that is all that matters.

Hello there PinkTulip and apologies for not replying sooner; after almost catching up with post-Christmas correspondence, I am now suffering from ( if only temporarily ) a bad case of keyboard fatigue.
I do understand your preference for posting on the Women’s Forum, if this is where you feel more comfortable. If though, you do not wish to venture out of this domain, as you can see, there are plenty of helpful, well mannered and knowledgeable gentlemen who are happy to offer their advice.
There are also those whose ‘ bark is worse than their bite ‘ - I’m told that saying, “ sit “ then tickling their ears and offering them a biscuit, usually works wonders.

I’m going to have to keep this message short but I will be back here in the next couple of days. In the meantime, great going with the January Challenge - I didn’t have time to row today but should be back communing with Darth Vader ( my pet name for our erg ) tomorrow.

Initially, I took up rowing in order to lose weight and improve my poor level of fitness. Almost six years on ( and not a fast rower either ) I’m still enjoying the sport and apart from the occasional few pounds fluctuation in my weight, still keeping off the 70 pounds that erging helped me to lose.
There is so much dietary advice out there, some of it a bit wacky or contradictory and anything that appears to be a ‘ quick fix , no effort required ‘ will probably not work. Your plan of a steady and realistic loss of one and a half to two pounds a month sounds sensible and sustainable.
If you are planning on a 100,000m a month goal, then you might find the Mud Madness Challenge a tempting way of keeping you occupied throughout March?
PinkTulip, good luck with your planned rowing endeavours and I hope that you will keep motivated and have a successful year. If you can, then please keep us updated about your progress.

The challenge threads have a limited lifespan and for various reasons, there will be past contributors who no longer row, or prefer to post on their team or the main forum. Other social media platforms might also account for less activity on here.

Jill, sometimes I’m out and about, burying bones and putting vermin on notice, and just happen to jump the fence into Title 9 territory. Gotta say the guys do enjoy being alone together! Mutual admiration society mostly, lots of techspeak, undergrad science, competitive tailfeather preening. No idea why women don’t flock up on fitness forums. Better things to do maybe or more of them?
