New year new me

Hi, I'm dublinseacow and have been lurking for a while. I started rowing at the gym after I injured my ankle. Rowing appealed to my triathlete side much more than the hand cycle machine. Rowing has helped me get a cardio workout using 3 limbs, not the usual four. My family decided to purchase a model D so I could row at home and exercise the dog on a treadmill. She and I both need to lose some winter weight :D . The erg shows up today and I am so excited :) Work up on my injured ankle reveals I have a high ankle sprain and a nerve stretch injury. It looks like it'll be some time before I will be able to do triathlons :(. Thank goodness no surgery is needed. I'll be doing PT to restore the ankle to fighting fit shape. I've been taking the rowing pretty easy as I'm pushing off with 1 leg and using my arms and I go for about half an hour at a time. I usually do a 5k in that time. I learned about this forum after doing a google search for one legged rowing and saw that others have walked this path before me. I'm so excited to join such a fantastic group of people.

Have you seen the tips about putting the rower on a smooth floor and your injured leg on a skateboard? I've seen videos of this and it seems to work better.

Yes, I have. I have a new ankle brace and am out of the boot. I haven’t priced out a skateboard yet. I am doing okay rowing gently, slowly. As I get stronger and progress in physical therapy, I plan to increase my efforts. Right now I am hitting zone 2 for rate of perceived exertion. It makes me happy :)

Good luck to you and you'll be binning off triathlons in favour of rowing soon enough :wink:

I wouldn't say I'll make the complete switch over to rowing. Triathlons give me the ability to have variety in my exercise. Adding rowing to my repertoire opens up a whole new way to Tri :lol:
