All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 1.14.2020

Image An explanation of moons:

For those new to the team, here's a quick explanation of how we got to "moons" and mooning. When an individual completes a half marathon or a full marathon in one continuous workout, it's an official half marathon or a full marathon. Sometimes a teammate will complete a combination of workouts that results in a meter output that meets or exceeds the half marathon or full marathon distance, and it's still a long haul but not eligible for a ranking. To celebrate BOTH kinds of big distances, we award a half moon graphic for distances between 21,097 and 42,194 m and full moons for distances that meet or exceed 42,195 m.

Current Challenge Team Standings: https://log.concept2.com/team/2537/vtc/2020

We're almost at the halfway mark on this Challenge - and within a day of the cutoff to change team rosters for the remainder of the Challenge. The Lunie Challenge team has earned over 6.5 MM meters!

Started off this January getting sick from visiting family over Christmas, aww yeah! This last week or so, I've been rowing with out foot straps. It took a session or so to get used to it, but I can't imagine doing steady state pieces any other way now. Does anybody else here row without straps?

It obviously works well, but what do you think is the advantage?

Our Lunie Challenge team has topped 7 MM meters as of today....and wouldn't you know it, suddenly Sub-7 Rowing is coming up in our rear view mirror! Tonight the team roster's are set for the remainder of this Challenge...and some say THAT'S when the real Challenge begins. It's hard work, this erging!
Image Well, it is throwback Thursday in some circles! This is where my mind went when Spotify announced that it would make playlists for your pets based on the music you like, or what you happen to sing to your pets. The family favorite was when my sister would play her flute...and the dog would howl mightily. Naturally, we encouraged this.

I mentioned a few posts back how my left foot always falls asleep around the 17 minute mark... My first though was shoes and straps.

So I lose the shoes and the straps. Foot still falls asleep. But with that said, I feel the straps do more harm than good.

When you're beginning you'll have the tendency to use them not to hold your feet down, but to pull back on the straps with your feet to pull you back towards the catch. This is bad. Your hip flexors will also hate you for this.

At the end of the stroke, the straps can keep you anchored onto the footboards. Also bad because until you learn to control your stroke, you'll be damn near "jumping" off of the footrests and thus leaking power. Your feet should always be planted. Removing straps will fix this really quick.

If you dont know how to use the quick releases yet, if a piece is particularly challenging I'm going to laugh as you struggle to free your feet

Of course I'm still a rookie myself, but these have been my revelations

The Master would say: "Ah Grasshopper, the motivation must come from within."

As much as we like repeating numbers...the ones with a lot of zeroes behind them are also very nice! Good work! Get it done!

Thanks! Maybe I'll give it a more consistent try. (I have forgotten to tighten the straps on occasion.)
