Wow, that's a great improvement, +500m, big congrats!
And your last 30' were 7401m, looks like you're ready for 7,5k! Very happy for you!
I've had a bit of a mental thing about the 30' (it seems 150% as scary as a 5k), so it'll be good to have some confidence when I test it.
Thanks Alex,winniewinser wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2020, 7:49 am<>
Great effort there Max, congrats on the BIG PB!!! ....15km is calling
15k is a long way off for now.
I hadn't done a 60' TT for months, but had plenty of 60' L4 sessions under my belt. The rate restrictions make those sessions really demanding physically (although the frequent rate and pace changes make them fly by) and this TT felt easier until the last couple of splits.
Cheers Stu,Dangerscouse wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2020, 8:15 am<>
Well done Max, that's a big improvement on your target. There's almost always one moment in a 60 mins session that I wobble and start to doubt myself too, but almost always, if you keep going it goes away.
As Martin says, you should test your 30 mins soon too with a second half result like that.
It was purely mental. I realised how close I was to getting over my goal, but I still had something like 3k to go. That's when the anxiety kicked in and I got that prickly feeling and the HR started to race. Calmed down a bit as I neared the finish and using some of your counting techniques definitely helped.
Thanks all,
Very pleased with this - it's my best PB by some way I think. Only problem? It makes my others look quite soft!

HM - 1:28.56.8
PB by something like 3:30, but....
My third and final PB from this winter. It really was a tale of two halves. The first 55mins were as good as, if not better, than I was expecting. My previous time was going to be nothing short of annihilated.
On 55mins, I got a stitch in my right side. Didn’t really know the rowing method of removing it, so it slowed me for around 10mins, but it was still ok.
It cleared around 1:05, and then my elbow got me. I had an injury 16 years ago, which resulted in a less-than-straight arm and occasional tightness. Either I made some bad strokes, or it just got fatigued. The result was it was getting tight every 10-20 strokes and I had to paddle 5. Was constantly trying to self-diagnose and still keep going as best I could. At the very end it was almost at 90 degrees hanging on the side of the handle!
In conclusion: of course I should be over the moon with my PB. I overcame physical issues and didn’t just get sub 1:30 but sub 1:29 on top. But just knowing ‘what might have been’. Another positive was that this issue didn’t show up on 5/10k rows, so maybe I cut my losses and stick to the shorter distances.
Thanks for reading - sorry the post ended up this long!

I know where you're coming from, but, you should absolutely be proud of the enormous chunks you've taken off your three PBs.

I get some RH anterior shoulder soreness if I break my arms too soon (too much work done by biceps, I think). If I focus on keeping my arms "long" (and I try to do this by relaxing my grip) then the soreness just doesn't happen. No idea whether this will affect your injury or not, or even be possible if your arm doesn't quite straighten, but might be something to think about.euan12345 wrote: ↑January 4th, 2020, 3:48 am

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks, that is interesting! I think for myself, I get into issues at the finish, if my elbow gets a bit stuck and chicken-wings out under tension. But I also think simple fatigue was the cause as well. It is feeling much better now, which is good. I can remember the surgeon saying at the time that my chances of getting arthritis were “...100%”, but so far it hasn’t shown up (yet)max_ratcliffe wrote: ↑January 4th, 2020, 7:34 amI know where you're coming from, but, you should absolutely be proud of the enormous chunks you've taken off your three PBs.

Thanks again Yes, it has been a good two weeks. All thanks to the Holiday Challenge and getting the video critique from this forum. I really shouldn’t be critical - it sucks having this elbow issue, but when it happened, it could have been a much worse result.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Hi all. Had an erg for several years now. Hitting 50 this year so thought I need to get serious about getting fit. Had a look over some past PBs and sessions I like to do. Besides the standard distances and times I also like the 'alternative' workouts on the PM.
Today I tried the 1 minute to 4minute and back again workout. Didn't know what to expect. Happy to hit these numbers:
1 min 286m/144.8 pace
2 min 575/1:44.3
3 min 852/1:45.6
4 min 1,115/1:47.6
3 min 864/1:44.1
2 min 595/1:40.8
1 min 310/1:36.7
Total: 16 mins 4,597m 1:44.4 pace
Target was to get a baseline down and maybe go sub 1:48 pace (average). Pretty happy with that.

HW. Almost 50. 2K 6:31, 5k 17.18, 10k 35.20, PBs set a few years ago. Chasing them seriously in 2020.
