Thanks for sorting out Henry - all looks in order on my side.
Welcome back Andrew. Have seen a few scores popping up on the CTC, but good to get you back on the forum.
I'm down to the last 12km of the Holiday Challenge 200km which should be knocked off later today (have to earn my beer in the pool somehow!). The 100km on the BikeErg the other day was a struggle. Was aiming to finish under 4 hours, and had lined up suitable food and drink on the way, but just felt flat as things progressed. Started out around 125W, but drifted down to just turning the pedals at 100W by the end to finish just over 4h10. Was the slowest of my 3 attempts up Alpe du Zwift, but the goal was completion, so that's good enough for me.
I need to get back to the rower straight after Christmas though. I signed up for the Paris event in Feb back in October, but training has been spotty since then. Still busy finding flights and accommodation, but at least I cleared it with work (busy time at work but fortunately I can work remotely on the Friday and Monday). For BRIC last year I aimed not to finish last in the age group, but for WRIC I'm just looking to finish with a sub-8 min time and last place will be fine.

Happy Christmas Flyers. There are a few names I recognise here still.
Sorry to hear about your back Henry. It must be immensely frustrating for you. I hope things improve for you.
Well I’ve had an interesting year health wise. Following a fabulous holiday in Japan in April I contracted a mystery illness. I could have caught it on the plane flights but who knows. Anyway in the weeks following I became quite ill and even ended up in hospital for tests. After a couple of blasts of antibiotics I started the long road to full recovery. The whole episode lasted 4 months. I am better now but so unfit! I haven’t been near the rower since May. I seriously doubt I will ever get back into rowing in the way I once was. Last year we bought a bike erg and I got into Zwift and just love it! So I am happy to contribute my metres to the team challenges but as for the ctc well I have lost a bit of interest and motivation for it I’m afraid.
Dave I follow your exploits on Zwift! I admired your trip up the Alp du Zwift. I’ve only done it once. Have you got a bike erg too or do you use a bike trainer?
Cheers all. I have joined the January challenge.

Cheers Debs,
We both have to find a new way to deal with things. Trying to stay fit in a way is important, if and how to use a rower less so.
Lets make 2020 a better year.

Great to see you back, Debbie. With the training I've been seeing you do on Zwift, I wouldn't have guessed there was an illness recovery involved.
I use a BikeErg at home, so it's convenient when I don't feel like doing a rowing session. I used it a lot for the Holiday Challenge, because I left things a bit late after a busy wrapping up of the work year. About 20% rower, 80% bike in the end, which was a lot easier on the back and hands than previous years' challenges.
After the WRIC in Feb I'm going to focus more on the Bike for a while, but keep doing a weekly session on the rower just to keep it going. Have to get more value out of the monthly subscription!
Nice CTC Jack. Was hoping you'd still fill one of the empty LW slots. Also good work from Lindsay and Terry which I saw had appeared when I put my score in. I did mine yesterday, but it doesn't help float any boats. Managed to stay within the target training bands of the Interactive Plan AN sessions, which bodes well for getting my training back on track for Feb.

I’ll be darned! Me too. Didn’t quite have that do-or-die quality of 500-2k prolly because so short. Best of luck in Paree, Dave, but don’t leave it to luck. Time

to chain up that bike erg and dust off the rower

gidday Ewen and welcome (back)
you recent stunning ergs would suggest that erging is on the agenda rather than trying to be the "strongest man in the world" at the moment
Must still be pretty strong tho'
best wishes
Thanks, Lindsay. "One of the strongest medium-sized fish in a pretty small pond" is more like it

, but I have indeed gone back to more of a 50/50 strength and endurance mix. I think it's a healthier option, although as Henry and Debbie health can unfortunately attest, health can be a matter of luck as much as it can be the result of healthy behaviour.
Hope to see several of you in Paris in February!

not the right year for me but would be fun all the same.
My daughter is moving from Brussels to Taipei next year so will require a special trip in 2022 now for the 70+ group.

BikeErg has been gathering dust and swimming towels since Christmas Eve, and the rower has been pressed back into daily service since the 26th. Today we're going to our beach house for a few days, and the rower is coming with (along with an eye-rolling wife, 2 kids and 2 dogs in the other car) to keep up the daily push. I've built in 1 rest day per week but pretty much compressed the last 5/6 weeks of a 4-day per week interactive plan into the remaining time. Doing a 2000m test on Saturday 11 Jan to see where things stand.
Tickets and hotel were booked this morning, so I'm committed!
