I'll take 185 as my MHR, but general lack of bluetooth connectivity (most of my devices are a bit old) means I'll probably just take a punt on the RHR. It's all quite new to me, but I'm looking forward to really getting to grips with some HR based training.
Good times Max! For RHR I would just check it out whilst sitting at rest or before getting out of bed - just count for 15" x4
Good grief. How thick am I?!? I can, of course, just take my pulse. I have free hands when I'm not on the erg.
Shame overload...

5k - 19:37.2
Compared with my previous ranked 5k, it makes for a new PB by something like 41 seconds). I guess this is what happens when you hit the erg every day for 2 months!

For the piece: I didn’t go in with any targets or expectations. The first 1k felt wonderful, like it was no effort. It gave me a positive outlook on getting a good time. The next 500m must have been a drag because I remember thinking “that is just 1500m, still 3500 to go. But don’t panic, you are fine”.

If possible, next time I would like to push the rate up, and prepare for the finish from longer than 100m out (I was terrified of undoing the good work by being too bold)

Nice start to my Sunday, though!

Today was a good day for doing a HM. New PB 1:25:29 which gives a 9th place in the Concept2 Rankings in my age group and weight class (verified workouts only).
Great result and great pacing too. Its a long way to keep a level pace that will see you to a PB and stick with it.

Thanks, it sure is. Two days earlier I had a go at it but had to quit after roughly an hour due to low energy levels. Felt great to achieve a sub 86 min goal.

Awesome work, Brady. That's quite a rate to keep up for that distance, but makes perfect sense given you're not 6'+. And a serious MHR.
Thank you! Besides being short and skinny, I’m not very strong in my upper body so I have to take many strokes (total of 2546). But with high aerobic enginge everything is possible. I’ll start doing sessions with focus on stroke rate.

Good luck all with your upcoming training week.

10k - 40:34.9
New PB by 32s

After yesterday’s 5k, my plan was to use this as a practice session for a proper 10k attempt. But things were going well and after the first 2k I just wanted to keep going and seal it today. Maybe should/could have gone under 40:30, but that will have to be for another day.

Thanks so much! Definitely no HM due to midweek time constraints. Or maybe I am just chicken! 6k, on the other hand - I haven’t tested that distance for a long time...

Well done Max, that's a big improvement on your target. There's almost always one moment in a 60 mins session that I wobble and start to doubt myself too, but almost always, if you keep going it goes away.

As Martin says, you should test your 30 mins soon too with a second half result like that.
