Last years 282,520m was going to be tough as the period was 6 days shorter this year :shock:
Worked out I basically had to row every day and do a minimum of 10k a day to ensure the average needed wasn't going to creep up.

Just done the 27th day and last row - a HM (21,097m 1:27:42.4 2:04.7)... target was 2:05 but have a had a lot of HDs on anything over 30mins so wasnt sure I had the mental cojones to do it, but managed to grind it out to finish the Holiday Challenge on 321,946m :D

300k was in reach a week ago, so decided to keep pushing it along and not just get past last year and stop. Last Christmas Eve I did my first ever HM, so felt I had to do another one this year!

Ok so I am a DII college runner and I have a little rowing related experience but never done crew, today I did a 2k erg test on a whim and pulled a 6:08. Could i row in college somewhere or is it possible the erg timing/measurement was wrong.

If you did a 2k erg with little experience/training on a CONCEPT2 machine then that is very good indeed and you should talk to a coach/team. If it was done on a non C2 erg such as a water rower then it doesn't mean anything much as can't compare to a C2.

Looking at the date of Thanksgiving in 2020, will have 29 days next year (2 more than this year) so there is no excuse for not beating it next year! :lol:

I think I am only on page 8 of the 200k honour board.. some people did serious KMs for the challenge :o
Although challenge has finished there are a few more days yet for people to upload their rows, so still might make it to $45k for good causes (currently the total is $40,927.22).

Its been nice having 2 days off.. back to it tomorrow though to burn off those mince pies! :roll:

Make sure it a was a c2 machine. A time like that is only possible, without training, if you both are fit and pretty tall. If this is correct you could easily dip far below sub6.

I fear its incorrect, if its not you are a born rower and certainly contact college s. If you are a typical runner, fit and light a time like that is not possible.
The very best lightweights, thats just below 75kg pull around 6.00. Heavyweights are above 90kg and most 6.4 and above.

If it was a genuine C2 machine, i'd also make sure that the PM was properly calibrated to the model.

Pulling a 2k time of 6:08 on just a whim with little rowing experience seems sketchy!!!

6k - 24:04.8 at 2:00.4, 24spm AHR164

My normal Saturday rotation has me back at 6k with the 500m fast/slow splits a second faster (now at 2:00/2:06).
Opened taps with 1k to go (final two splits 1:53.5 and 1:50.0). Should sneak under 24:00 next month.

Still playing with the new HRM to see how high I could push it [the HR, I mean - obviously not the position of the HRM!!]. Touched 183bpm, which is going some, but as I wasn't flapping about on the floor like a landed fish afterwards, I suspect this isn't actually my MHR.

Well done Max, your rotation is great to get regular PBs by slowly but steadily pacing up over time, and build up conficence. The final splits clearly show you had a good bit left in the tank, even more confidence for coming TTs :D
The longer intervals are great to get the MHR, esp. if the last one is all out. But I doubt your real MHR is much higher than this 183, 6k with a very fast last 1k should get you very close, for calculating the HR zones I would use 185. Have you also tested your RHR to calculate HRR?

Today was a good day for doing a HM. New PB 1:25:29 which gives a 9th place in the Concept2 Rankings in my age group and weight class (verified workouts only).
I averaged 92 % of maximal heart rate for this session. Last 15 minutes the heart rate was 97.5 % of HRMax.

Great result and great pacing too. Its a long way to keep a level pace that will see you to a PB and stick with it.

Awesome work, Brady. That's quite a rate to keep up for that distance, but makes perfect sense given you're not 6'+. And a serious MHR.

TBH, I feel like these are almost a bit of a cheat, especially at the 6k end of the rotation. I could probably just pin my ears back and do a proper TT for 6k which would be a bit faster, but this way I get regular PBs, as you say. Just call me Sergey Bubka! By the 10k end, I'm much closer to my actual current limits.

I'll take 185 as my MHR, but general lack of bluetooth connectivity (most of my devices are a bit old) means I'll probably just take a punt on the RHR. It's all quite new to me, but I'm looking forward to really getting to grips with some HR based training.

Good times Max! For RHR I would just check it out whilst sitting at rest or before getting out of bed - just count for 15" x4
