RowPro crash during online row
I often row online in groups with RowPro and have a lot of success and enjoyment with it. But for 4 weeks now I've done a group half marathon Sunday mornings, and 3 of the 4 times RowPro has crashed late in the session. It's frustrating to row that long and not get to finish. Anybody else having similar issues?
I'm running RP 5.3 on Windows 10. I think in each case the crash happens after 2 or 3 of the guys in the lead have finished, but I still have a few minutes left. The program just goes away completely, without any error indicated. There are errors in the Windows event log, long and detailed and I won't post here unless someone wants to see it. The first two times I thought it was due to a network glitch (loss of internet for a minute) on my end. I don't think this should crash a program either but in any case, today there was no network glitch and it happened anyway.
Would like to get this fixed....
Thanks for any ideas.

Re: RowPro crash during online row
1. Upgrade the firmware in your PM to the latest generally available version (not beta).
2. Report your RowPro issue at: https://www.digitalrowing.com/Support/index.html

Yes its a current problem that digital rowing are already aware of and only affects distance not timed rows. You are correct it only crashes once someone finishes ahead of you the program just shuts down.
RP V5.4 is due out very soon and may fix it. I was told they could not replicate it but our 10k was crashing every week. Your better just having a timed row and not a fixed distance for now.

Re: RowPro crash during online row
Carl, thanks for the reply. At least I know it's a known problem and might get fixed. I hope so. Doing timed rows only is a problem if I want to log distance rows for ranking. One of the values I get from RP is having a buddy pace me to a PR.
Do you know what more is known about the bug? I'm asking as maybe it will suggest a temporary work-around. I've not seen it fail at shorter distances, though apparently you have seen the problem at 10k. Also, seems the first few can finish. Yesterday I joined a HM (in fact I was the organizer if that matters). I think 9 started. The four that finished under 90 minutes got to finish. Sometime around 90 min it crashed for me. I don't know if everyone else crashed out the same way, I just know only the four fast guys got their finish time logged in oarbits.
Anyway, thanks again. I'll hope for a fix.

Re: RowPro crash during online row
This is good information. I've had rowpro crash enough times that I typically don't chance using the software for longer than a 60 minute row.
Bill, I saw your row and was tempted to join. I almost never join set distance pieces as I am a bit slow and hate to have everyone wait for me to finish. That half marathon would take me almost 100 minutes.

Re: RowPro crash during online row
Hi Mitchell. Except for the likelihood that RP will crash you out like has happened to me, don't worry about being slow. I was slowest in that session yesterday. I was trying for 94 minutes and would probably have made it except for some cramping in my gluts. It's an issue for me that often kicks in around 15k. I'm working on it. I ended up finishing (without RP but PM5 kept going) at around 97 min. Anyway, please join if you want. Guys don't seem to care if there are slow people in the group. And they don't wait around if they don't want to!

Re: RowPro crash during online row
Yes don't forget with a PM5 and the addition of ErgData you have multiple sets of results to choose from for a data upload. ErgData is currently better than the PM5 and RowPro as it also uploads your Drag Factor and Stroke Count as well.
In terms of a PB you could still make the row a timed piece so you have something to aim for, a bit risky but its easier to finish to the meter than it is to 0.1sec. Have no problem consistently hitting 7500m for a 30 minute for example.
The problem never used to exist so I'm picking its a problem associated with a Windows 10 update.
RowPro V5.4 has been released see here....
